International Sled Dog Race in Kandersteg

Feb 17 - Feb 18

Kandersteg Sled Dog Race

Among a winter wonderland with deep snow and crystal clear air, 140 teams will meet for the International Sled Dog Race.

The track in Kandersteg is very popular among participants due to its Nordic character. In recent years, sled dog racing has established itself in the Alpine region, attracting more and more visitors.

The race will start at the bottom of the Allmenalp cable car. Imagine some 120 dogs taking off in the various categories, including in teams of two to eight dogs. There is also the discipline of skijoring where the handler on skis is being pulled by a dog.

The admission price for one day is 10 francs or 12 francs for both days. Children under the age of 16 years are free of charge.

Here are some important sled dog terms to remember:

  • Musher: Person in charge of the sled dogs (they like to answer questions, except shortly before the race…)
  • Dog handler: This is the helper of the musher
  • Trail: Another term for race track
