Monet at Fondation Beyeler (Riehen)

Feb 7, 2017 - May 28, 2017

CHF29.80

I have first encountered Claude Monet’s works at the Musée de l’Orangerie in Paris.

The wealth and variety of Monet’s impressionist art has left a mark on me. Alas, I was thrilled to learn that the Fondation Beyeler is devoting an exhibit to this important painter. Being one of the key artists in their permanent collection, the museum will be shedding light on selected aspects of Monet’s work.

Those who pilgrimage to Riehen near Basel before May 28 will enjoy over 60 works of art, summoned from museums and private collections the world over.

The selection focuses on the years after 1880 to the onset of the 20th century, a period when famous paintings such as Houses of Parliament and the water lilies series were born.

On select days, Fondation Beyeler is opening its doors to those early risers who want to soak in Claude Monet in tranquility. There is a special curator’s tour with a meditation session inside the exhibit halls.

For the families among you, mark your calendars for Sunday, April 9. From 10 AM to 6 PM, there will be museum tours tailored to children and teenagers in several languages. Also, the museum has announced experiments with art and creative workshops, all of which are included in the admission fee.

I will leave you with a curious fact: “Monet was baptized as Oscar-Claude, but his parents called him simply Oscar. Strange that we all call him Claude.”
