Little did we know that there is a place in Switzerland where stars are born.

Thanks to a generous invitation for a skiing getaway, we’ve discovered that the Hard Rock Hotel Davos might just be that place. The four-star hotel is located a brief walk from the Davos Platz train station, and mere steps from the Schatzalp funicular.


Can’t help falling in love

Before entering the lobby, we drop our bags for the first photo shooting… How to resist those electric guitars and the uplift soundtrack?

Speaking of the soundtrack, there is hardly a space in this hotel without music - even one of the massage treatments features sound. For the Rythm & Motion massage, we lay down on an amplifier bed that vibrates to a curated soundtrack! It’s truly an immersive experience to hear and feel music this way.

The Hard Rock Hotel Davos carries the title of being the first such property in continental Europe. We feel that this may be one of those hotels kept as a secret by other guests; the rock star memorabilia, live acts, friendly staff, and ideal location are simply too good to share. We can’t help falling in love.


Livin’ on a prayer

Laura, one of the so-called band members, gives us a tour of the hotel. As a testament to how serious the hotel takes its theme, employees have a soundcheck briefing every morning. And of course, a dedicated Vibe Manager is solely in charge of the music. From curating live acts to compiling soundtracks for each space in the hotel, this quite literally sounds like the perfect job in the world.

When Laura opens the wings to the hotel’s own chapel, we cannot believe our eyes. This would be the perfect wedding location or concert hall - or both at the same time.


Residences at Hard Rock Hotel Davos

Apart from regular hotel rooms and suites, the Hard Rock Hotel Davos also offers a limited number of bespoke apartments for sale. Available in sizes ranging from studios to three-bedroom flats, each one is fully furnished and equipped for a comfortable stay. Depending on the size and floorplan, there might be a cozy lounge or even a chef’s kitchen. All units come with a large balcony providing mountain views, a parking space, and a storage area.

We had the chance to peek inside one of the Residences at the Hard Rock Hotel Davos that is still on the market. This apartment featured a generous chef’s kitchen that opened to a dining area.

Beyond the living room lounge, a few steps led up to the master bedroom with an adjacent bathroom. Designed by the acclaimed architecture firm Woods Bagot, each unit has its distinct character. And with this being the Hard Rock Hotel, the walls are adorned with unique art pieces that show off the DNA of this place. 

We can absolutely see the allure for a mountain and/or music lover to call such an apartment their own.

It goes without saying that each residence comes with an entire backstage rider of amenities and VIP services. For instance, owners have access to the hotel’s in-house gym and spa - one of the largest and most up-to-date in Davos.

Like any other hotel guest, owners of a residence can walk into the Sessions restaurant where a daily complimentary breakfast is served. And if they decide to hang around for lunch or dinner, they enjoy a discount on their food bill.

At this point, you may wonder how ownership of a residence works in practice. Because frankly, unless you move your home office to the Hard Rock Hotel Davos (which sounds very tempting as I spell out these lines), you may really only spend a few weeks there every year.

Each owner, whether a Swiss citizen or an international, receives a guaranteed allocation of eight weeks per year at their residence. While this is similar to a timeshare model, we learn that staying for as brief as one night at a time is possible. And while the owner is out of town, their residence is available for hotel guests.

The revenue share model favors the owners, who receive 60 percent of gross revenue. Peter Schmidt, Director of Sales and Marketing, tells us that the revenue share model is especially juicy if residences are made available during peak season when room prices are highest, including during the World Economic Forum.

But then again, who wouldn’t want to get snowed in at their own apartment to spend the Christmas holidays?
