Cuba meets Switzerland! The first ever musical production from Cuba will take stage in Zürich this fall.

The tale of Carmen La Cubana takes place on the eve of the Cuban revolution in 1958. Set in a cigar factory somewhere in the countryside, we will be taken on a colorful journey through the night. The destination? Havanna’s lively bars and night clubs!

When the Carmen opera goes Cuba…

Along with the involvement of Cuban actors and actresses, singers and musicians, the classic “Carmen” opera from the 19th century has been newly reinterpreted.

In this clever screenplay, Carmen’s dream for a better life and her struggle for independence parallel the unfolding Cuban revolution. We can only imagine what happens when love, jealousy, salsa and revolución collide…

We love seeing musicals at Theater 11 because of the hall’s wonderful acoustics. A live orchestra of 14 musicians will underscore Carmen’s yearning for freedom by infusing the opera songs with Rumba or Mambo.
