SUMMARY:Wise Hearts: The Beauty of Aging Dogs (Photography)
DESCRIPTION:There are dogs who have walked beside their families for a decade or more. They might be greying at the muzzle\, are slower on the stairs\, but are no less present in the heart of a home. \n\n\n\nWise Hearts: The Beauty of Aging Dogs\, Celebrated Through Portraits and Love Letters is a fine art photography exhibition that asks us to pause\, look closely\, and recognize the quiet magnificence of growing old together. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Story Behind the Lens\n\n\n\nHeather Ennis of Mont Blanc Photography has reached out to us about her exhibit\, and we loved the idea. While we never had a pet dog\, we did have a cat who turned 17 years of age. So\, the idea of honoring senior pets through photography really resonated with me. \n\n\n\nWith Wise Hearts\, Heather turned her lens toward senior dogs from across western Switzerland. The collection of photographs is very diverse\, but has a shared emotional connector. \n\n\n\nEach portrait is accompanied by a handwritten love letter from the dog's family. Exhibited side by side\, photographs and words form an intimate display of devotion. \n\n\n\n"Grace" (Copyright Mont Blanc Photography/Heather Ennis)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA Story That Will Stay With You\n\n\n\nAmong the exhibition's most powerful narratives is that of Grace\, a small black Labrador who suffered devastating spinal injuries following a road accident. When euthanasia was being considered\, Oasis des vétérans in Vaulruz stepped in\, committing to a long and painstaking rehabilitation programme. \n\n\n\nGrace was eventually adopted by a Swiss cop and today lives with permanent disability. By all accounts\, she lives happily ever after... \n\n\n\nHer story is about survival\, but also about what becomes possible when people choose not to give up. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSupport for Oasis des Vétérans\n\n\n\nAccording to Heather\, a portion of all print and book sales at the exhibit will directly benefit Oasis des vétérans. This organisation offers a refuge to senior cats and dogs\, ensuring they receive the dignified\, love-filled retirement they deserve. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPractical Information\n\n\n\n\nExhibition dates: March 21–27\, 2026\n\n\n\nLocation: Au Temps Qui Passe\, Rte de Coinsins 1\, 1272 Genolier\, Vaud\n\n\n\nVernissage: March 21 (Ticketed due to limited gallery capacity)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGenolier sits just above the shores of Lake Geneva\, so it's easily reachable from Lausanne\, Geneva or Nyon. \n\n\n\nBuy tickets to the vernissage \n\n\n\nAnd purchase the book that accompanies the show \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhether you arrive as a dog owner\, a photography enthusiast\, or simply someone who appreciates storytelling done with care\, Wise Hearts is the kind of exhibition that lingers long after you've left the gallery. \n\n\n\nCome and meet the dogs. Read the letters. And perhaps leave with a new appreciation for everything that grows more beautiful with time.

SUMMARY:Why "Imagine Picasso" in Zurich is 100% Unique
DESCRIPTION:Copyright lililillilil\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCalling all Picasso admirers: we're stoked to announce the arrival of "Imagine Picasso" in Zurich! \n\n\n\nPablo Picasso\, a man whose name is synonymous with artistic genius\, once said\, "Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up." \n\n\n\nEmbracing this spirit\, we invite you to rediscover your artistic soul and immerse yourself in the world of Picasso. This man of many talents was a prolific creator; he left behind more than 50\,000 works of art. \n\n\n\nWhen visiting Picasso's birthplace a while back\, we tasted the creator's legacy at the Museo Picasso Málaga. The Imagine Picasso exhibit in Zurich is a tribute to Picasso on the 50th anniversary of his death. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInside "Imagine Picasso" in Zurich\n\n\n\nThis immersive exhibition\, curated by the French artists Annabelle Mauger and Julien Baron\, pioneers of immersive art\, is hosted at the Lichthalle MAAG. The large space exhibits more than 200 Picasso paintings in a captivating way. \n\n\n\nPicasso's paintings are projected onto walls\, giant origami elements\, and the floor\, creating a 360-degree visual feast. This immersive staging gives us a unique insight into the evolution of one of the most productive and creative geniuses ever. \n\n\n\nWe are excited to go on this mesmerizing journey through Picasso's world. "Imagine Picasso" celebrates the Spanish artist's revolutionary career\, from the evocative images of his Blue and Rose periods through his masterpieces of Cubism and Surrealism to the diverse and unique works of his mature years. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCopyright Encore Productions/Laurence Labat\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA unique chance to experience Picasso\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe exhibition results from a collaborative effort between Annabelle Mauger\, Julien Baron\, architect Rudy Ricciotti\, and French art historian Androula Michael. \n\n\n\nInspired by Picasso's perspective on his childhood\, the team created a setting where paintings are projected onto huge origami structures and walls. They quite literally deconstruct and restructure Picasso's work. The experience at "Imagine Picasso" is enhanced by a soundtrack\, immersing us deeper into this artistic universe. \n\n\n\nAndroula Michael\, the curator of the exhibition and an art historian specializing in Picasso\, emphasizes that the main goal of this immersive exhibition is to create a space accessible to everyone\, regardless of age\, language\, and culture. \n\n\n\nIt promotes emotions\, dreams\, and a deep dive into the subject\, even for the youngest visitors. We believe that winter is the perfect season to step off the snow-covered streets of Zurich and into this exhibit at Lichthalle MAAG. \n\n\n\nSo\, join us in this unique celebration of Picasso's art and legacy\, and immerse yourself in the world of one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. "Imagine Picasso" is not just an exhibition; it's an experience\, a journey\, and a tribute to the genius of Pablo Picasso. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMore information about "Imagine Picasso"\n\n\n\n\nDate: November 15\, 2023 to January 28\, 2024\n\n\n\nLocation: Lichthalle MAAG\, Zurich\n\n\n\nOpening Hours: Tue/Wed/Thu/Sun 10 AM to 6 PM\, Fri/Sat 10 AM to 8 PM\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n What makes "Imagine Picasso" so unique?"Imagine Picasso" offers a unique immersive experience\, allowing visitors to explore Picasso's works in a 360-degree visual feast\, providing a deep and personal encounter with his art. \n \n \n \n \n \n Who are the creators behind "Imagine Picasso"?The exhibition is curated by French artists Annabelle Mauger and Julien Baron\, in collaboration with architect Rudy Ricciotti and art historian Androula Michael. \n \n \n \n \n \n Is the exhibition suitable for all ages?Yes\, the exhibition aims to be accessible to everyone\, regardless of age\, language\, and culture\, promoting emotions\, dreams\, and a deep dive into Picasso's art.

SUMMARY:Festival Images in Vevey 2022
DESCRIPTION:Festival Images in Vevey is an enormous street art festival that showcases the best in visual arts. This outdoor experience returns for the eighth time in 2022. \n\n\n\nThose who have followed us may recall that we have visited the Festival Images in previous years. The last edition in 2020 left us with vivid memories of Vevey’s fountains\, buildings\, and parks enveloped in art. \n\n\n\nThe festival organizers have announced various indoor exhibits\, outdoor installations\, and large-scale murals across Vevey this year. And we were stoked to have reported on-site during the opening weekend! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHere are the 2022 Festival Images highlights:\n\n\n\nThis year’s theme is prone to creating a sense of community: Together. La vie ensemble. It illuminates togetherness relating to all aspects of life: culture\, cuisine\, family\, love\, politics\, sports\, religion\, tourism\, science\, and technology. \n\n\n\nThe common theme of photography unites the 50 installations by artists from around the world. Among the 25 nations represented at Festival Images Vevey are Japan\, Guatemala\, Spain\, and South Africa. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow about this temporary minigolf track by Lake Geneva? Each track is built around a photographs\, and some of the challenges are pretty hard... Can you guess who won? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNear Salle del Castillo\, American artist Diana Markosian has recreated her family history as a TV soap opera. Entitled Santa Barbara\, this multimedia experience offers visual storytelling at its best. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTeju Cole\, a Nigerian-American photographer\, has captured tourism in Switzerland from unique vantage points: \n\n\n\nCopyright Teju Cole\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFestival Images is not merely about displaying photographs. It is an immersive experience in that the art is displayed in just the right location. For instance\, this photograph of a cat by Mimi Mollica is inside a building with a mouse door entrance. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAfter a quick coffee\, we head over to the Swiss Camera Museum. Escapism by Swiss artist Roger Eberhard is a must-see exhibit. Believe it or not\, but each print shows a magnified creamer lid! According to the artist\, these lids allow us to go on micro escapes during everyday life: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDuring the three-week festival\, Vevey is being transformed into an outdoor art museum. We love to go on walks to stumble upon unique murals such as this one by Thomas Struth. It showcases Manhattan in the 1970's. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat are you waiting for? Run\, don't walk to Vevey! And keep an eye out for our announcement of the next edition of the biennale in 2024! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHave you been to Festival Images Vevey? SUMMARY:“Monet’s Immersive Garden” Experience in Zurich
DESCRIPTION:Monet’s garden has served as the subject of countless paintings\, drawings\, and pastels. An immersive 360-degree experience brings one of the 20th century’s finest artists to life: Monet’s Immersive Garden. \n\n\n\n“In front of your eyes\, illusions become reality.” When an exhibit teases with a phrase like this\, my curiosity is sparked. Having visited previous exhibits at Lichthalle MAAG\, I can only imagine how colorful and vibrant this production will be. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMonet’s Immersive Garden features video and sound\n\n\n\nEnhanced with visual and acoustic techniques\, the exhibit takes us straight to the heart of Monet’s infamous garden with its waterlily pond. Monet’s Immersive Garden combines images from no less than 40 projectors. \n\n\n\nThis production combines video with acoustic sound effects and music to create a dazzling world of color. Pixels replace Monet’s brush strokes. Through the use of magnification\, animation\, and sound\, we get to view the artist’s work in entirely new ways. \n\n\n\nWhen you purchase your ticket\, ask for an English audio guide. The exhibit is narrated in German only. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSome quick facts about Claude Monet\n\n\n\nHe was born on November 14\, 1840\, in Paris\, but he grew up in the harbor city of Le Havre\, where he spent most of his childhood and youth. As a child\, he would sit down with a pencil and paper and doodle. He used to caricature politicians and his neighbors when he was a teen.Claude Monet was a talented artist\, but not everyone in his family was. His father had a grocery business and viewed him as his successor\, not as an artist. After the death of his mother in 1857\, only his aunt\, a self-taught artist\, provided advice and supported him in his ambition to pursue a career in art.Monet was an avid gardener. He studied reference books\, went to exhibitions\, and sought expert guidance. In 1883\, Monet was drawn to Giverny\, a village in northern France’s Normandy region. This is where he would cultivate the infamous orchard with exotic plants\, flowers\, and the water lily pond. The garden served as a retreat and a source of creative inspiration for Monet. For the next 30 years\, he would make the water lily pond the defining motif of his art.Monet used to pay a gardener just to dust his water lilies. Every morning\, the gardener would delicately wash and dust the lily pads from a small boat.Once clean\, Claude Monet would pick up a brush to paint the water's surface\, the swaying flowers\, and the sky and landscape that reflected in it.His water lily paintings that are known across the world were created between 1894 and 1896.Monet portrayed his beloved pond at various seasons of the day and year. He would observe the times of day\, seasons\, sun\, clouds\, rain\, and light for long periods of time\, capturing various atmospheres. There are around 2000 paintings by Monet\, as well as eleven sketchbooks\, 110 drawings\, and 108 pastels.

SUMMARY:"The Kid" Exhibition at Chaplin’s World in Vevey
DESCRIPTION:The Kid: Charlie Chaplin's first blockbuster was released 100 years ago\, and Chaplin's World in Vevey is now dedicating an entire exhibit to it. \n\n\n\nThe silent film is regarded as one of Chaplin's best works. From scriptwriting to directing and acting\, Chaplin’s first feature-length film is still a classic today. The many events surrounding the 100th anniversary are reason enough to return to Vevey this spring. \n\n\n\nIn order to mark this special anniversary\, the museum has created a special exhibition dedicated to The Kid. With children in mind\, the exhibit allows visitors to step into the streets of London during the late 19th century. In addition\, never-before-seen archival footage reveals Chaplin's own upbringing. \n\n\n\nThe Kid. The Exhibition. will be on display through Sept 25\, 2022. \n\n\n\nCopyright Chaplin's World\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA circus show dedicated to The Kid\n\n\n\nFrom April 15 through May 1\, the L'Alchimie Circus School is going to put up their tent right on the premises of Chaplin's World. Their 40-minute program is included in the museum admission ticket. \n\n\n\nGoing with the theme\, their show will be entirely dedicated to The Kid: with a live youth orchestra in the backdrop\, the circus performers will be reenacting key scenes from the movie. Think chases\, acrobatic interludes\, and funny clown interludes in the style of the 1920s. Afterwards in the park\, try out whether you have what it takes to join the circus... \n\n\n\nDaily circus show times are 11 AM\, 2 PM\, and 4 PM. No shows on Tuesdays. \n\n\n\nCopyright Chaplin's World/Marc Ducrest\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChaplin’s World special events on April 16\n\n\n\nThose who visited Chaplin’s World on Saturday\, April 16\, were in for some treats. On Charlie Chaplin’s 133rd birthday\, the museum’s theater held a special screening of The Kid. The filmmaker’s own son\, Eugene Chaplin\, attended the screening and shared a firsthand account of his family’s life in Vevey. \n\n\n\nHere's a key scene from The Kid where the Tramp finds a baby: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWeather permitting\, another special on April 29 will be hot air balloon rides. Taking to the skies from the park in front of the mansion\, this will be a unique opportunity to soak in the spectacular views of Lake Geneva and the French Alps from high above. (10 francs per person.) \n\n\n\nMore information \n\n\n\nCopyright Chaplin's World/Marc Ducrest\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nModern Times Hotel\n\n\n\nDuring our recent visit\, we checked into the four-star Modern Times Hotel. Just a brief drive from Chaplin's World and a two-minute walk from a local train station\, this hotel is ideally located for museum-goers. \n\n\n\nThe interior of the hotel brings the Charlie Chaplin universe to life. There are gimmicks in the lobby\, as well as a restaurant displaying various memorabilia. We particularly liked the breakfast buffet included in the room rate\, as well as the views of Lake Geneva in the distance. \n\n\n\nCopyright Modern Times Hotel

SUMMARY:Switzerland: Amazingly Ambivalent (Exhibit)
DESCRIPTION:Copyright Swiss National Museum\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMany Swiss share a sentiment that their country is a cut above the rest. They might tell you that nature is breathtakingly beautiful\, the streets are sparkling clean\, and the infrastructure is top-notch. \n\n\n\nThis inside-out view does not necessarily match how the world perceives Switzerland. Is it an idyllic paradise\, or a surveillance state where suspicious neighbors check up on each other? Is it a humanitarian country or rather an island ruled by banks and multinationals? \n\n\n\nThe Swiss National Museum in Zürich is dedicating a temporary exhibit to bring us face to face with these bewildering contrasts: Amazingly Ambivalent. By facing these divergent views\, we will get to reflect on our own relationship with Switzerland. And who knows\, we might even uncover what really makes the Swiss tick... \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nCopyright Swiss National Museum

SUMMARY:Olympic Winter Games Exhibit - Rêver en blanc
DESCRIPTION:Copyright International Olympic Committee (IOC) - Catherine Leutenegger\, 2021\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRêver en blanc is the latest exhibit at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne. It opened just in time for this year's Winter Olympics as well as the 100-year anniversary of the Olympic Winter Games in 2024. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRêver en blanc - Dreaming in white\n\n\n\nThe temporary exhibit covers the Olympic Winter Games past\, present\, and future. It explores themes that will play an increasingly important part in the games. By nature\, the various disciplines depend on wintry conditions. But in the face of climate change\, how can winter games continue to take place in a sustainable way? \n\n\n\nThis exhibit lives from the many video clips and historical sports artifacts. And there are some fun selfie spots\, too... (How about stepping into a pair of vintage skis?) We are especially keen on the poster gallery\, as well as the collection of mascots from past editions. \n\n\n\nCopyright International Olympic Committee (IOC) - Catherine Leutenegger\, 2021\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAnd finally\, those of us with a nostalgic streak will appreciate a rare collection of photographs: some 80 archival photos showcase the Olympic Winter Games from 1924 to 1968. \n\n\n\nThe aptly named exhibit is free of charge. SUMMARY:Viva Frida Kahlo! Exhibit in Zurich
DESCRIPTION:Immerse yourself in the colorful and surreal world of Mexican artist/feminist icon Frida Kahlo at the MAAG Lichthalle in Zürich. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRunning from Sept 22 through Feb 27\, 2022\, the exhibition combines video projections\, light\, and sound. You will feel like you’ve just wandered off Planet Earth and stepped into Kahlo’s fascinating mind\, surrounded by exotic plants\, quirky animals\, and dreamlike symbolism. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrida Kahlo explored her identity and pain through her art. A mixed-race woman who spent a lot of her young adult life confined to a hospital bed\, she later underwent a public\, tumultuous relationship with fellow artist Diego Rivera. \n\n\n\nRich with symbolism\, her work remains a fascination to young people today. Kahlo is widely regarded as an icon for her unique personality\, fashion sense\, and (at the time) radical views on womanhood. \n\n\n\nIf you need a little break from reality as the months get colder\, this immersive exhibition is the perfect escape for the entire family!

SUMMARY:Why not to miss the World Press Photo Exhibition 2021 (Bellinzona)
DESCRIPTION:(Photograph copyright Mads Nissen\, Politiken/Panos Pictures)\n \nHere is the chance to catch the touring World Press Photo Exhibition in a very unique place: Monte Carasso.\n\nHigh above Bellinzona\, this traveling exhibition will return to a historic basement for the seventh time. Truly\, the stone walls of the SpazioReale make for a perfect setting to display photography. And those who have never visited Monte Carasso could combine the exhibit with the nearby Tibetan bridge.\n\nWorld Press Photo depicts the world through the eyes of press photographers. Whenever a catastrophe occurs\, these brave men and women are there to capture humanity at its most vulnerable. Whether it is the Coronavirus pandemic\, the refugee crisis\, wars and conflicts\, societal concerns\, or protests\, press photographers are on the ground to chronicle the action and share their views with the rest of us.\n \nWorld Press Photo Exhibition 2021 showcases roughly 140 photographs. Among others\, it covers some important current issues such as the 50th anniversary of women's voting rights.\n\nThis year\, the exhibit is also honoring a work that illustrates the human toll of the Coronavirus pandemic. Mads Nissen's "The First Embrace" was shot on August 5\, 2020\, in Sao Paulo\, Brazil. The photograph shows Rosa Luzia Lunardi\, a senior citizen\, being embraced at her nursing home. The photograph is significant as it captures Ms. Lunardi receiving the first hug after five months without physical contact.\n\nOpening hours: Mon - Fri from 3:00 to 7:00 PM\, Sat/Sun/holidays from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM\nAdmission: Adults 10 francs; children from 6 to 16 years/students/retirees 7 francs\n \n(Photographs copyright SpazioReale)

SUMMARY:Meet a Renaissance great at Raffaello 3D (Bellinzona)
DESCRIPTION:After a successful 3D exhibit on Leonardo da Vinci\, Bellinzona is once again hosting a great figure of the Italian Renaissance period: the author and artist Raffaello.\n\nRaffaello\, or Raphael\, died at the young age of 37. Maybe this is part of the reason why the curators of Raffaello 3D have geared the exhibit towards young visitors. To commemorate the 500th anniversary of the artist's death\, they have rolled out the latest in interactive museum technology. And what better setting to delve into history than the Castello di Sasso Corbaro?\n\n \nRaffaello 3D: this interactive museum brings the man of the hour to life\n\nInside the exhibition\, you will get to admire Renaissance architecture through a virtual tour of the Ideal City\, a realistic 3D model. Also\, there is an AR experience allowing you to render a particularly realistic image taken from one of the most symbolic paintings. Some of Raffaello's most renowned artworks are also animated.\n\nWe like the use of AR technology as it superimposes information onto paintings and displays. And we have good news for those who worry that this exhibit wants you to become an expert on Raffaello. Instead of going deep\, the museum's aim is to broaden your horizon on a wide range of topics.\n\nBoth children and adults (and those in between) will surely enjoy walking around the castle with a tablet PC. Apart from a virtual treasure hunt and other hands-on displays\, these AR tablets will animate Renaissance paintings. As a result\, you will get to see Raffaello as if the man was standing right in front of you!\n\n \nGain an appreciation of the visual beauty of Italian Renaissance art\n\nThe exhibition attempts to give a comprehensive overview of the Italian Renaissance\, one of the most influential periods in art history\, by connecting Raffaello to other Renaissance giants such as Michelangelo\, Leonardo\, Bramante\, and others. And it shows why the Italian Renaissance is relevant to humankind as a whole.\n\n \nMore information\n \nOpening hours: Daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM\nAdmission: Adults 15 francs; children from 6 to 16 years/students/retirees 8 francs\, families (2 adults/3 children) 35 francs\n

SUMMARY:Lynchian Vibes in Olten - INFINITE DEEP DAVID LYNCH
DESCRIPTION:More than 3000 visitors have dived into the latest photography exhibit of David Lynch on show in Olten\, Switzerland. \nMulholland Drive\, Elephant Man\, or the cult television series Twin Peaks are some of David Lynch's biggest successes as a filmmaker. But not everyone may be aware that the acclaimed filmmaker is also an avid painter and photographer. \nHis latest photography exhibition\, INFINITE DEEP\, is currently showing at Haus der Fotografie in Olten. This venue has the distinct honor of being the first gallery in Europe to host the exhibition. INFINITE DEEP runs until the end of June\, so make sure you book your tickets now.\n  \nThoughts from a recent visit to the David Lynch exhibit in Olten\nFor those familiar with David Lynch’s body of work\, Infinite Deep shouldn’t be too much of a shock to the system. The artist/filmmaker is known for subverting idyllic suburban dreamlands by distorting them into nightmarish hellscapes. He likes to create a sense of unease in his audience\, and finds beauty in what lurks beneath the façade of perfection. \nInfinite Deep is an intimate journey through his vision as an artist. Spanning three floors\, the exhibition showcases several decades’ worth of Lynch’s photographic work\, as well as a short film. The melancholic and eerie ‘Polish Night Music’ score\, composed by Lynch and collaborator Marek Zebrowski\, is played throughout the gallery\, perfectly setting the scene for the exhibition. \nSome of the images on display on the ground floor\, from the series "Portraits" (2008)\, are reminiscent of the no-holds-barred "Twin Peaks: The Return\," from 2017. One can already see the machinations of Lynch’s mind in these photographs\, masterfully manipulated on Photoshop to remove masks and reveal what is hidden beneath.\n  \nFrom the "Portraits" collection (2008):\n \nOn the first floor\, visitors can explore Lynch’s "Nudes" and "Distorted Nudes" series\, the latter of which is displayed in a room restricted to those over the age of 16. In "Distorted Nudes"\, Lynch wields Photoshop like a madman's machete\, mutilating and dismembering what appears\, from a distance\, to be a perfectly normal collection of old erotic photographs. \n \nOn display on the third floor are the "Snowmen" and "Factories" series\, again revealing the artist’s fascination with decay and disintegration. "Snowmen" shows what happens after the joy and excitement of assembling snowmen wears off\, the parts we never get to see in family photos and popular films. Factories functions in the same way\, showing what happens to formerly lively industrial buildings\, abandoned and left to the mercy of nature.\n  \nHere is a peek at the "Snowmen" series (1993)\, a collection of photographs of abandoned snowmen melting away in families’ front yards. The dark humour of Lynch’s work is on full display in these images:\n \nA short\, animated film entitled "Fire" is also shown in a small room on the second floor\, accompanied by unsettling string music by Polish musicians Penderecki String Quartet. Lynch created the animation in 2015 but released it to the public during the lockdown in 2020. Bearing in mind the social isolation we’ve all experienced in the past year\, this short film becomes all the more relatable.\n  \nThe Gallery\nHoused in what was formerly a natural history museum\, the House of Photography has been renovated into a sleek\, modern gallery with excellent lighting\, spearheaded and funded by the International Photo Festival Olten (IPFO). \nThe House of Photography team\, though new to the museum scene\, are passionate and hardworking\, attested by how they assembled this impressive exhibition. Enlisting the expertise of curator Nathalie Herschdorfer was a stroke of genius\, as she displays the photographs in a way that seamlessly draws the eye over the images in a fluid motion. \n \nDon't miss out on the opportunity to see Lynch's disturbing but fascinating art up close and personal!\nThe House of Photography is truly a gem and is sure to put the town of Olten on the cultural and artistic map. Infinite Deep has been extended until July 25th so you still have time to experience the weird world of David Lynch! \nGet your tickets now and receive a 25% discount on the admission by traveling to Olten by train. SUMMARY:SPORT X MANGA exhibit at the Olympic Museum
DESCRIPTION:Paying tribute to the TOKYO 2020 Olympic Games as well as Japanese pop culture\, the Olympic Museum in Lausanne now offers various special exhibits and events. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSPORT X MANGA exhibit\n\n\n\nWith manga being an integral part of Japanese culture\, it only makes sense that the museum went on to highlight its role in sports. A curious fact: the hosting of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo was already mentioned in the 1980s in the science fiction manga Akira by Otomo Katsuhiro! \n\n\n\nAs part of the SPORT X MANGA exhibit\, we get to learn all about Japan and how manga has influenced its relationship with sport. \n\n\n\nAmong many other titles\, the museum dedicates space to popular mangas such as Captain Tsubasa (a professional soccer player)\, or SLAM DUNK (a basketball player). For those who are clueless about manga\, there is an aptly named "Manga for Dummies" section... \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThrough November 23\, there will a series of activities at the museum and online. In Lausanne\, expect to see interactive displays and elements that demonstrate how fiction and the importance of sports in Japanese society often intersect. \n\n\n\nHence\, SPORT X MANGA was born\, an exhibit free of charge to the public. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCelebrating TOKYO 2020 online and at the museum\n\n\n\nThe entire museum exhibit has been designed in the colors of TOKYO 2020. Just take the museum gardens which now feature a series of gates similar to the torii leading up to Shinto shrines. Once inside\, you will be greeted by the cuddly mascots of this year's games. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA separate exhibit is dedicated entirely to this historic edition of the Olympic Games. For one\, it highlights the venues where the Games will be held this summer. The new National Stadium in Tokyo is available as a miniature model. And finally\, an AR app allows you to seemingly enter the stadium as an athlete would. \n\n\n\nBut the exhibit also presents the five sports making their debut at the Olympics\, such as skateboarding\, surfing\, sports climbing\, or karate. \n\n\n\nThe opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympic Games\, as well as all the competitions\, will be broadcast live at the museum. Live performances\, broadcasts\, or cultural workshops for families will round up all the ways we get to explore Japanese culture. \n\n\n\nAll photographs copyright Comité International Olympique (CIO) / Catherine Leutenegger

SUMMARY:"The Great Dictator" Exhibit at Chaplin's World in Vevey
DESCRIPTION:For its interactive museum and large collection\, Chaplin's World is a destination in its own right. Through the end of August\, the museum is dedicating a special exhibit to "The Great Dictator." \nAptly named "Chaplin and the Great Dictator: The Story of a Little Fish in an Ocean Full of Sharks\," this special exhibition explores some interesting questions: What did Charlie Chaplin do to prepare for his impersonation of Adolf Hitler's facial expressions and gestures? What about the parody names used in the movie? And what was Chaplin's later reaction to the revelation about the atrocities the Nazis had committed? \nAfter the exposure of the Nazi crimes\, what was Chaplin's reaction to his own film? The exhibit\, which is in German\, French\, and English\, takes visitors on a journey. It sets off by giving an overview of the movie. Previously unpublished photographs from assistant director Dan James showcase daily life on the film set. The images also reveal previously unpublished scenes and video tricks from Chaplin's first feature with sound. \nChaplin's World is open daily. Face masks are mandatory for all visitors\, and we recommend buying an admission ticket online for special savings.

SUMMARY:"Sauvage" is the perfect exhibit for families this summer
DESCRIPTION:The temporary exhibition "Sauvage" at the Natural History Museum in Neuchâtel is an eye-opening experience for children and adults alike. \n\n\n\nThe title "Sauvage" (French for "wild") conjures up many different interpretations from every individual\, so the curators asked people what word they thought of when they heard the word sauvage. They have then adorned the entrance to the exhibition with the most common responses. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSauvage is an immersive and interactive exhibition\, seeking to make learning fun for the whole family.\n\n\n\nThis temporary exhibit touches on themes such as mass tourism and extinction. It aims to show children (and remind adults) that animals are sentient and intelligent beings that have more in common with us than we like to believe. \n\n\n\nIt’s a great way to educate ourselves on the fragility of life on our planet. And it forces us to rethink why we believe ourselves to be the master race and why we exploit animals the way we do. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIf you are courageous enough to enter the seemingly alive object in the middle of a dark room\, you will be rewarded with a high-definition recording of animal sounds and vocalizations. Meanwhile\, the massive figure enveloping you inhales and exhales\, making for an exhilarating\, multi-sensory experience.  \n\n\n\nContinuing with the "wild" theme\, the exhibition also poses the question of what is still considered wild when it comes to animals. \n\n\n\nA video showing a serene vista of gazelle frolicking and feeding is quickly turned on its head when we view the screen on the other side of the wall\, revealing what goes on behind the scenes of a safari in Kenya. Is mass tourism blurring the definition of "wild"? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA perfect exhibit for the summer break\n\n\n\nThe education doesn’t stop there\, as there are plenty of interactive games and videos for families to enjoy\, including one where you listen to animal noises and try to figure out which of two animals is emanating the sound. The answers may surprise you! \n\n\n\nAfter exploring the indoor exhibition\, you can step into the courtyard to marvel at the work of artist Paolo Grassino\, depicting the hostility and vulnerability of the human species. \n\n\n\nThose wanting to extend their "Sauvage" experience may even camp in the courtyard overnight. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe exhibition runs until August 29\, so there is plenty of time to visit during the summer holidays. \n\n\n\nPlease note: the exhibition is mostly in French\, with some text written in German. An English-speaking guide can be requested for those who would like a more intimate tour. \n\n\n\nThe museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday\, 10 AM to 6 PM. Admission is 8 francs for adults\, 4 francs for students\, and free of charge for children 16 and under.

SUMMARY:Let's play! An exhibit about the history of video games
DESCRIPTION:(Key visual copyright Swiss National Museum/Roli Hofer) \nPacman\, Tetris and Super Mario Bros. are names that bring up memories. Yet just a couple of decades ago\, video games were looked at as a gimmick. \nThis spring\, the Swiss National Museum in Zürich is dedicating a temporary exhibit to the history of video games. \nAs one of the world's top leisure activities\, video games have surely established themselves in popular culture. (Globally\, some 2.5 billion people play video games!) The evolution from Commodore 64 to today's virtual reality experiences in cyberspace is remarkable. \nThis exhibit looks at the 50-years old history of electronic games\, giving visitors lots of opportunities to get hands on. When is the last time you played Pacman? Personally\, I cannot wait to see this exhibit and get my game on... Who knows? I might even start to spend my lunch hours there! \nTest your skills in this browser based game especially developed for the exhibit. \nOpening hours: Tue - Sun 10 AM to 5 PM\, Thu 10 AM to 7 PM\, closed on Mon \nMore information \n \n(All photographs copyright Swiss National Museum)

SUMMARY:photoSCHWEIZ is coming back to Zürich in 2020
DESCRIPTION:Once the holiday dust has settled and the new year has kicked off\, we are always glad to find inspiration at photoSCHWEIZ. \nYou may remember the previous editions of Switzerland's largest photography exhibit\, such as photo19. In 2020\, the organizers have rebranded the exhibit to simply photoSCHWEIZ. \nMore than 300 photographers will be displaying their best works\, whereby 200 photographs will be part of the regular exhibit. The remaining pieces will be spread among 18 special exhibitions covering everything from documentary to nature photography. \nOne such exhibit is entitled "Doomed Paradise"\, a long term documentation of the rain forests of Borneo. Photographer Tomas Wüthrich has traveled there multiple times in order to visit with local residents who are fighting deforestation. I am particularly interested in this show because the recent feature film\, Paradise War\, about Bruno Manser\, has brought the Penan people back into popular consciousness. \nphotoSCHWEIZ workshops\nThose who want to further their photography skills or are considering a career as a photographer should look into the 120 workshops. Topics range from travel photography to aerial photography (held in English). \nphotoSCHWEIZ is open daily from 11 AM to 8 PM and tickets are available online.\n \n(Photograph copyright Ruth Spiller/photoSCHWEIZ)

SUMMARY:Pong! The Vintage Computer Festival is coming back to Zürich
DESCRIPTION:Vintage computer festivals are held across the world. And once again this November\, there's one coming back to Zürich! \nRelive the home computer years\, but also experience computers from from the 1950's to the 1970's. Remember the blinked rows of lights on massive front panels\, hidden in research labs\, universities and big companies? There is no admission for kids\, and they will be well catered for with a large Vintage Gaming section. \nExhibitors (both private collectors and museums) have made great efforts to engage families with children\, and not just computer enthusiasts\, with a varied\, fun but also educational experience. As it turns out\, a big computer from 1970 is not so hard to understand for people today. \nThe event is hosted in the Rote Fabrik at Seestrasse 395. \nFollow them on Twitter or check out the photo gallery from 2016.

SUMMARY:The third annual Le Salon du Design is coming back to Geneva
DESCRIPTION:Geneva's first 20th century design fair\, Le Salon du Design\, is coming back for a third edition. \nThis year\, the participating shops and galleries will be highlighting 100 years of design history. We expect the Le Salon du Design to be quite an experience as it showcases on postmodern furniture\, Bauhaus styles\, Scandinavian design and vintage design from Switzerland\, Italy and France. Visitors will have the chance to step through time and space in this exhibit that places quality over quantity. \nOne of the highlights will surely be the fiberglass shells made famous by Charles and Ray Eames. But we are also excited about the exhibition featuring (and selling) the most iconic productions of Swiss design. \nThe organic architecture of the Pavillon Sicli\, designed in the 1960s by Heinz Isler\, offers the ideal setting for authentic pieces from the 1920s to 1985. Swiss and international dealers are holding their most beautiful finds for the visitors of Le Salon du Design in Geneva as a preview of the major European events that will be held later on. \nTickets are 5 francs for those above 12 years of age. The exhibit is open as follows: Sat from 10 AM to 8 PM\, Sun from 10 AM to 6 PM. \n(Both photographs copyright Corine Stübi/Le Salon du Design)

SUMMARY:Heidi in Japan - Swiss National Museum in Zürich
DESCRIPTION:アルプスの少女ハイジ or "Arupusu no Shōjo Haiji": this is the title of the 1974 anime series that put the Swiss Alps on the map for many Japanese. \nIt is a story we all know too well: orphaned mountain girl is taken to the city yet yearns for the alps. Ever since the end of the 19th century\, Heidi has been conquering the world. But it was not until the release of the cartoon "Heidi\, Girl of the Alps" in Japan that Heidi turned into a global phenomenon. \nThe makers of the animated series went on to co-found the world-famous Studio Ghibli\, creator of numerous films and series. Now through October 13\, 2019\, the Swiss National Museum in Zürich is dedicating an exhibition to Heidi. The focus lies on the fusion of the Swiss and Japanese culture\, as well as on the evolution of the anime series. \n\n  \n"Heidi in Japan" Focus Day on Friday\, Aug 30\nFrom 9 AM to 4:30 PM\, the Swiss National Museum along with the University of Zurich will be hosting an exciting series of events. Among other things\, the University's Institute of Art History studies the Japanese view of Switzerland. The idealized image of Switzerland in the popular animated film series\, "Heidi\, Girl of the Alps"\, has contributed significantly to shaping that view. \nDuring this focus day\, you will get to discuss interesting questions such as "would Johanna Spyri still recognize her Heidi today?" or "can translations change a character?" More than 40 years after its release\, the idyllic images of nature and the Swiss mountains in the anime film still evoke a sense of yearning in many Japanese. \nAnd there will be a musical treat to complement the event: Switzerland's Schwarz Family will have an appearance - they have recorded the original soundtrack of the cartoon series without understanding a word of Japanese! \nActivities for children: Check out this nifty sheet with Heidi games or this printable cut-out activity. \nOpening hours: Tue - Sun 10 AM to 5 PM\, Thu 10 AM to 7 PM\, closed on Mon (guided tours including food tasting every other Saturday) \nMore information \n(All photographs copyright Swiss National Museum)

SUMMARY:photo19 kicks off Zürich's year of events
DESCRIPTION:This January\, there is a particular event we look forward to the most: photo19. \nIt is always fascinating to view such a wide variety of photographs which were produced by amateurs and professionals alike. From advertising to fashion photography\, and from documentary shots to portraits: photo19 is promising to take us on a journey to places near and far. \nWhile the more than 250 photographers are both national and international\, we always enjoy the honest looks at Switzerland. (We are Newly Swissed\, after all.) Whatever your taste\, go with the flow as visitors meander among the exhibit displays. Keep in mind that all photographs have either been produced at one point during 2018 or have never before been published. Those who are deeper into photography will enjoy photoFORUM\, a podium where renowned photographers share their insights. Or how about picking up some new skills at photoSCHOOL? \nThe venues of photo19 are conveniently located just steps from the Zürich-Oerlikon train station. photo19 will be open daily from 11 AM to 8 PM.

SUMMARY:grafikSCHWEIZ 18 is Switzerland's graphic design exhibit
DESCRIPTION:There is no better place to get a feel for Switzerland's long history of graphic design than at grafikSCHWEIZ 18. \nThis annual gathering for graphic design\, new media\, games and virtual reality has established itself over the years and we always enjoy going there. With some 130 different national and international artists exhibiting\, it is always a feast for the eyes. From icon design to typography and illustration\, the invited talents will show off their most innovative and relevant body of work. One of the criteria is that works have to have been produced within the prior year. \nIn the past\, we have enjoyed grafikSCHWEIZ for its interactive exhibits such as a drawing wall where visitors were able to express themselves. Oftentimes\, artists are present and eager to answer questions\, adding more depth to this unmissable event. \nHighlights during grafikSCHWEIZ 18\nThis year\, look out for David Boller\, an illustrator who has previously worked for renowned publishers such as Marvel or DC Comics. Along with Michel Fornasier\, he will be unveiling a comic series entitled "Bionicman". \ngrafikSCHWEIZ 18 will be staged at the formerly industrial Halle 622 in Zürich-Oerlikon. The exhibit will be open daily from 11 AM to 8 PM.
