That's right: in his hut (which is conveniently accessible from the railway station)\, the old man welcomes children of all ages during the holidays. \nA photograph with Santa Claus at Rochers de Naye\nBeyond the magic tunnel with its flashing lights\, there is a small stage for the meet-and-greet and the picture taking. As we found out on our recent trip\, Santa Claus speaks many different languages - from Russian to Japanese\, English and French. There is an official photographer\, but anyone is allowed to take their own pictures at no charge. \n \nDuring Montreux Noël\, Santa Claus can be visited Wednesdays through Sundays\, as well as on Monday\, Dec 23\, and Tuesday\, Dec 24\, 2019.\n \nBut Rochers de Naye offers plenty of activities and things to see during any day of the festive season. The kids can gather stamps on a scavenger hunt and they can even peek into Santa's bedroom. Meanwhile\, the scenic panorama at 2042 meters above sea invites for memorable selfies. \nRestaurant Le Coucou in Caux\nOn our way back to Montreux Noël\, we hopped off the cogwheel train in Caux above Mntreux. Just footsteps from the station is Restaurant Le Coucou\, a charming chalet serving local favorites. There has always been a grape festival\, but the town has revamped the concept as of 2017\, paying tribute to the before-mentioned courtyards. \nCourtyard action - Mendrisio style\nAs you will see\, traditional houses in Mendrisio have terracotta rooftops and magnificent inner courtyards. During the time of the festival\, a line-up of events will be happening in eight of those courtyards. From Jazz and Big Band concerts to children's workshops\, the aim is to relive the customs and traditions of the Mendrisio district. On the town's piazzas\, there will be family activities\, magic shows and more. \nFinally\, we are particularly keen to trying the polenta dishes that will be served hot and fresh throughout Sagra del Borgo. Depending on the courtyard\, you will find polenta with mountain cheese\, local salami\, beef or even game meat like deer! DESCRIPTION:Even fifteen years in\, every new edition of the Zurich Film Festival has its own distinct vibe. \nBy focusing on one country each year\, the ZFF gives a stage to new generations of filmmakers. We really like the "New World View" format because the line-up of screenings\, often in the presence of the filmmakers\, quite literally exposes us to a new world. After Argentina\, Brazil and Mexico in previous years\, the organizers will now shine a light on Colombian cinema. \nColombian cinema at the Zurich Film Festival\nGeorg Bütler\, senior programmer at the Zurich Film Festival\, explains that Colombian cinema is so appealing because of its urgency. The tone of these young Colombian filmmakers is uncompromising. And the stories out of Columbia's metropolises are contemporary and very much locally rooted. \nHe goes on: "Protagonists of the films are often young people who live in the metropolises of Medellín and Bogotá. They are still looking for their place in a confusing world." There will be a dozen feature films by Colombian directors\, including documentaries. \nEuropean premieres\nIt would not be the Zurich Film Festival without a slew of European premieres and special screenings. Despite a tremendous line-up which has grown to more than 170 films from 58 countries\, the ZFF has remained compact and easy to navigate. \nThe participating theaters are within city limits\, meaning that they can be reached by foot or by tram. Almost every night\, the green carpet in front of the Corso cinema turns into a Hollywood Walk of Fame. In previous years\, we have spotted icons such as Benicio del Toro\, Judi Dench\, Diane Keaton or Johnny Depp from close up. This year's ZFF Masters sessions will be headed by Hollywood stars Javier Bardem\, Donald Sutherland\, Roland Emmerich and Oliver Stone.  \nHere's the actor Christoph Waltz who visited the ZFF in 2015: \n\n  \nOur advice\nThose who simply want to experience the magic of the movies should stop by the festival center at Sechseläutenplatz. Plastered with movie posters\, the buzz there will allow you to have your own 15 minutes of fame as you sip on a drink at the bar or chew on popcorn while feeling the buzz that only the film industry can create. \nAnd the movie buffs should take our advice and get the Multi-Pass. It's basically a golden ticket for unlimited movie screenings! And for sold out screenings\, returned tickets go on sale 15 minutes before the respective film begins. \nThe line-up will be released on Thursday\, Sept 12. And what place might be suited better as the home for this new Vintage Cycling Festival than Gstaad? This part of Switzerland is surrounded by some of the most beautiful passes and mountain roads offering tough challenges and spectacular views. Also\, Gstaad went cycle crazy when Swiss hero\, Hugo Koblet\, crossed the finish line here in 1950. Ascending all the way from Lausanne\, Koblet finished first in this leg of the Tour de Suisse in 1950. (He later won the entire tour!) \nStyle is a major concern of the organizers.\nThey want you to ride in vintage clothing or bring a classic car! In fact\, the Paléo Festival has gained so much attraction\, tickets have been selling out extremely fast since about the year 2000. \nWhat to expect at the Paléo Festival in Nyon?\nWith more than six stages and around 280 concerts\, the Paléo is an unmissable event! People come from all over just to see their favorite artists and experience one of the best weeks of the year. This music festival is all about diversity. Trust me: with its different styles of music and the vast amount of food stalls from around the world\, you will not get bored. \nOne of the concepts that makes Paléo so unique is "Le Village du Monde" - the world's village. There\, a different region of the world is exposed every year. In 2019\, Paléo will have Quebec as their theme. And as for the concerts this year\, make sure to look out for big stars such as Twenty One Pilots\, Lana Del Rey\, The Cure and Shaka Ponk. Also\, Lomepal and Soprano. \nAs you can tell\, there will be music to satisfy anyone's taste. You can start purchasing tickets online starting April 3 at noon. Make sure to be quick since they tend to sell out very fast! You can either choose between a single ticket or a weekly pass. \nMy advice: If all the tickets are unfortunately sold out\, no worries: Paléo puts a certain amount of tickets up for sale every morning for that particular day before the festival begins.

DESCRIPTION:Every three years\, Zürich is turned upside down for three days during ZüriFäscht. \nOnce again in 2019\, a plethora of 300 food stalls will line Limmatquai and sweep around the northern end of the lake for this three-day summer festival. Events include everything from "rides" in amphibious vehicles to wakeboarding on the Limmat river. Have we mentioned camel rides and the 90 theme park rides? \n \nThe airshows at ZüriFäscht\nNot to miss are the airshows featuring the PC-7 Pilatus team or a Super Puma helicopter. And in between\, there are plenty of high-wire acrobatics shows high above the city\, free concerts and parties. \n \nThe ZüriFäscht fireworks on Friday and Saturday nights always attract big crowds\, so make sure to get there early enough. \n \nThe best part about ZüriFäscht? Everyone is invited\, and it is free of charge!

During PHOTO LAUNDRY\, show off your creative work in an improvised gallery made of laundry lines under open sky. The original idea of such an exhibition was born in St Petersburg\, Russia\, in 2010. Since then\, similar events have been organized in over 100 cities all over the world. Being the only "photo laundry" event in Switzerland so far\, PICZ has been organizing this event annually since 2015. \nIn order to participate at PHOTO LAUNDRY\, the photographs must be your work and they need to fit one of these (deliberately broad) themes:\n- Landscape/Nature\n- Street Photography\n- Multiple-/Long Exposure\n- Architecture/City Scape \nUp to three pictures per topic are allowed to be entered. The cool part is that you will be able to exchange your photographs according to the principle of "bring one – take one." (Pictures will be sheltered in case of rain. Or in the case of very bad weather\, the exhibition might be moved inside.) \nYou are welcome to write your name and a short message to the future owner on your pictures. The film festival that claimed this name is coming back to Zürich once again. \nThe GINMAKU Japanese Film Festival in Zürich\nFor the fourth time\, the GINMAKU Japanese Film Festival is bringing a line-up of Japanese films to Zürich. We were part of the initial festival several years ago\, and we have been counting the days for organizer Mizuki Mazbara to bring it back. \nThis year\, the screenings will take place in two hipster theaters in Zürich: The HOUDINI movie theater at Kalkbreite\, as well as the Riffraff at Langstrasse. \nThe particular appeal of this film festival is the unique line-up of the latest Japanese films. Mizuki Mazbara is well connected and gets to screen lots of potential movies as she visits other film festivals. At GINMAKU in Zürich\, we are privy to viewing the best of the best. \nThe presence of special guests such as directors or filmmakers make this film festival an immersive experience. Because usually\, there is a Q&A session taking place right after the screening\, allowing viewers to get behind-the-scenes insights. DESCRIPTION:Ready to see the Federal Parliament in a different light? \nThrough November 25\, the side of the parliament building in Bern will be decorated with a nightly light show. As part of the 7th annual Rendez-vous Bundesplatz\, stories will be told in ways that you have never seen... Every night at 7 PM and 8:30 PM\, this 25 minute light show will mesmerize visitors to the Bundesplatz square. (There are additional performances Thursdays\, Fridays and Saturdays at 9:30 PM.) \nThose who understand the significance of the Reformation will get to better enjoy all the references in the show. SUMMARY:The Unspunnen Festival is more than 200 years old (Interlaken)
DESCRIPTION:Exceptionally\, it has been 11 years since the last Unspunnen folklore festival took place. \nMany young Swiss remember visiting it in their childhood. A decade later\, the same Swiss traditions as back then are being kept as strong as ever. Moreover\, the festival's beginnings reach back to 1805 when a local celebration was held in order to bring together the city dwellers and country folk. \nThe Unspunnen Festival in Interlaken\nSaid to be the world's largest traditional gathering\, the Unspunnen Festival combines an array of Swiss traditions: Flag throwing\, alphorns\, traditional sports (think boulder throwing or Swiss wrestling Schwingen)\, but also yodeling and popular Swiss music. \nApart from that\, you might not want to miss the folk dance event where some 2500 dancers come together for a mesmerizing show. To make it even more colorful and to learn the looks of different parts of Switzerland\, see the Grande Parade\, a part of the Traditional Costume and Alpine Herdsmen's Festival! \nMore information\nYou can either get individual tickets for separate shows or concerts (20 to 49 francs) or purchase a festival pass (79 francs for adults; 39 francs for children ages 3 to 16). The latter provides unlimited entries for all nine festival days. \n \nAn interesting fact: The Unspunnen festival was first held in 1805. It was seen as a way of preventing uprisings between the urban residents and people living in the countryside. (At the time\, they saw each other as political enemies.) Although years later the unrests still broke out\, the second festival in 1808 was a huge success with 5000 visitors.

DESCRIPTION:Every year\, Winterthur has the Albanifest. Every three years\, Zürich has the (thus making it more exclusive). And every ten years\, Baden has Badenfahrt. \nAnd guess what? This year is one of those years! The name “Badenfahrt” derives from the 19th century term for a trip to the baths in Baden. DESCRIPTION:The Corpus Christi procession is an old\, colorful tradition and it contributes to Appenzell being one of the culturally richest regions in Switzerland. \nIn most other cantons in Switzerland\, it is a normal working day. But the residents of Appenzell Innerrhoden spend their holiday with a festive parade celebrating the Catholic sacrament – the Holy Eucharist. Local church members\, authorities\, cadets and others march side by side and create a fairytale-like picture on the streets. \nThe gorgeous costumes\, especially the sumptuous\, baroque-like women's dresses\, make the procession an impressive experience for the spectators. \nThe procession starts and ends at the St. Mauritius church\, filling it with masses of people that look as if they came from back when the church was built.
