SUMMARY:The Unspunnen Festival is more than 200 years old (Interlaken)
DESCRIPTION:Exceptionally\, it has been 11 years since the last Unspunnen folklore festival took place. \nMany young Swiss remember visiting it in their childhood. A decade later\, the same Swiss traditions as back then are being kept as strong as ever. Moreover\, the festival's beginnings reach back to 1805 when a local celebration was held in order to bring together the city dwellers and country folk. \nThe Unspunnen Festival in Interlaken\nSaid to be the world's largest traditional gathering\, the Unspunnen Festival combines an array of Swiss traditions: Flag throwing\, alphorns\, traditional sports (think boulder throwing or Swiss wrestling Schwingen)\, but also yodeling and popular Swiss music. \nApart from that\, you might not want to miss the folk dance event where some 2500 dancers come together for a mesmerizing show. To make it even more colorful and to learn the looks of different parts of Switzerland\, see the Grande Parade\, a part of the Traditional Costume and Alpine Herdsmen's Festival! \nMore information\nYou can either get individual tickets for separate shows or concerts (20 to 49 francs) or purchase a festival pass (79 francs for adults; 39 francs for children ages 3 to 16). The latter provides unlimited entries for all nine festival days. \n \nAn interesting fact: The Unspunnen festival was first held in 1805. It was seen as a way of preventing uprisings between the urban residents and people living in the countryside. (At the time\, they saw each other as political enemies.) Although years later the unrests still broke out\, the second festival in 1808 was a huge success with 5000 visitors.

DESCRIPTION:Every year\, Winterthur has the Albanifest. Every three years\, Zürich has the (thus making it more exclusive). And every ten years\, Baden has Badenfahrt. \nAnd guess what? This year is one of those years! The name “Badenfahrt” derives from the 19th century term for a trip to the baths in Baden. DESCRIPTION:The Corpus Christi procession is an old\, colorful tradition and it contributes to Appenzell being one of the culturally richest regions in Switzerland. \nIn most other cantons in Switzerland\, it is a normal working day. But the residents of Appenzell Innerrhoden spend their holiday with a festive parade celebrating the Catholic sacrament – the Holy Eucharist. Local church members\, authorities\, cadets and others march side by side and create a fairytale-like picture on the streets. \nThe gorgeous costumes\, especially the sumptuous\, baroque-like women's dresses\, make the procession an impressive experience for the spectators. \nThe procession starts and ends at the St. Mauritius church\, filling it with masses of people that look as if they came from back when the church was built. Events include everything from "rides" in amphibious vehicles to wakeboarding on the Limmat river or camel rides. \n \nNot to miss are the airshows with the PC-7 Pilatus team or with a Super Puma helicopter. And in between\, there are plenty of high-wire acrobatics shows high above the city\, free concerts and parties. \n \nThe fireworks on Friday and Saturday nights always attract a big crowd\, so get there early. \n \nThe best part about ZüriFäscht? Everyone is invited\, and it's free of charge!

DESCRIPTION:This will not be just any other weekend in Switzerland. \nIn fact\, it will be a legendary one\, with the grand opening celebration of the Gotthard Base Tunnel - the longest rail tunnel in the world at 57 km. The imposing project\, symbolizing Swiss values such as innovation\, precision and reliability\, will be there to stay for generations further on.\n  \nThis June 4 and 5\, you can be a part of history at the important and long awaited moment of the tunnel's opening.\nThe official opening takes place on Wednesday\, June 1\, with media and around 1000 guests invited. During the following weekend of June 4 and 5\, a unique festival program awaits everyone at different places around the tunnel entrances. You can sweep through the tunnel for the first time with a shuttle train\, reaching up to 200 km/h\, see presentations of Swiss artists and visit the multimedia exhibition on the Gotthard. \n \nSwiss rail will provide special event trains during the weekend. Just a word of caution\, though: Be prepared for busy and full trains on the way to the event happenings. \nThere is a special ticket which gives you a 30% discount off your train journey from your home town to the festival sites. Word spread like wildfire and in the first year\, more than 5000 visitors showed up - instead of the projected 2000! Last year\, the event reached another milestone by entertaining some 8000 visitors during one weekend. \n \nNow in its fifth year\, this typical Engadine food and music festival has not lost its charm. The weekend takes off on Saturday at noon with a Tavolata Street BBQ. Imagine a giant BBQ grill in the middle of town... \nThe classic Tavolata experience takes place on Sunday. It features dishes prepared by award-winning chefs from local St. Moritz hotels and restaurants\, including Badrutt's Palace and Kulm Hotel St. Moritz. Music plays an equally important role at the festival\, so expect bands and street musicians from all over Europe! \nIn the true spirit of a non-profit\, La Tavolata has remained independent. Whether as a spectator or participant\, the initiators of this established dance festival promise to make you feel the groove by the end of this dance-tastish weekend! \nLocations with performances include Gessnerallee\, Toni Areal or Rote Fabrik. And as every year\, the big kick-off will take place Friday night at Zürich's main station! \nOne of our personal highlight in 2015 is the Tour de Danse - YelloW\, Zürich!\, a dancing procession through Zürich! It takes place from 3 to 5 PM on Saturday\, starting in front of the Kunsthaus.

DESCRIPTION:The fourth edition of zürich moves! is dedicated to cross-border/cross-gender performances. \nSince 2012\, the zürich moves! festival has been presenting contemporary dance\, dance films and performance art. This year again\, each performer addresses the issues of identity\, gender and sexuality in a unique way. A few of the highlights are Simone Aughterlony\, Polish performer Slawek Bendrat\, and Ivan Blagajcevic a.k.a. Evalyn. \nToday\, more than ever\, the question about personal\, sexual and gender specific identity and its limits come to mind. Maybe the question should rather be: Are there any limits? And if so\, who defines them and how do artists deal with them? \nIf you are curious to find out\, join us for zürich moves\, which will take place thanks to the city partnership between Zürich and San Francisco. This is the first attempt to introduce the Swiss audience to Japanese independent movies - at Zürich's newest cinema hotspot: The Houdini. \nThe line-up includes six productions filmed between 2012 and 2014 - most of them being Swiss premieres. The organizer\, Mrs. Mizuki Mazbara\, has handpicked these movies as they capture the current Japan at their best.
