DESCRIPTION:Memories of our previous stay at the Cresta Palace Hotel in Celerina include a breakfast buffet to write home about and a premium dining experience. \nWe were excited to find out that Head Chef Rolf J. Schmitz has come up with a unique concept: during two nights this September\, he and his team will be offering regional delicacies from the Engadine along with fresh Burgundy truffles and award winning Japanese miyazaki beef. What a great reason to return to Celerina! \n"Japan meets the Engadine" is for all the foodies out there.\nMost of you might not need an introduction to miyazaki-gyu\, a type of wagyu beef from the southern island of Kyushu. You likely already know that it is top of the line when it comes to Japanese meat. I have never actually tasted it and am more than curious to find out how Chef Schmitz is going to prepare it. The menu gives some clues already: crostini with wagyu lard and truffle\, as well as wagyu filet. \n \nBut apart from the meats\, the seven course meal includes other Japanese flavors\, too: there will be a serving of sushi rolls and nigiri sushi\, fish soup\, or a tangy yuzu sorbet topped with Japanese pepper. The second part of this dining experience will focus more on regional delicacies such as Swiss cheese or apricot tarts. \nFinally\, another exciting twist is the sake pairing: Marc Nydegger\, the owner of the shizuku shop in Zürich\, is a sake expert who will be pairing each course with the perfect Japanese sake. He has been on our radar for a while because we would love to learn more about his unique story. His own Instagram account reveals that he is into cheese production\, so we are curious to experience his passion firsthand. \nThe Gusto Festival Kitchen Party takes place on June 2\, starting with an apéro at 7:00 PM. The all-inclusive price is 96 francs per person. \nAdditional Gusto Festival venues in Ascona\nAfter Buenos Aires and São Paulo\, the young Argentinian chef Leo Lanussol is bringing his urban kitchen to Villa Orselina on May 31. And on Friday\, May 25\, I shall humbly receive various cuts of maguro at Restaurant Metropol in Zürich! \nTaste of Japan on May 25 is a match made in heaven for tuna lovers!\nStarting at 6 PM\, a freshly delivered tuna from sustainable production will be prepared by a skilled Japanese chef. Flown in that same morning\, the fish is as fresh as can be. As part of a five course meal\, the master chef is then going to present a variety of delicate tuna dishes featuring akami\, chutoro and even otoro cuts. \nThink about it: How often do residents of a landlocked country like Switzerland have the privilege of tasting fresh sea food? DESCRIPTION:Every year for one weekend only\, Ticino vineyards will open their wine cellars to the public. It is the weekend of "Cantine Aperte". \nThis year\, some 85 producers will be participating\, making it near impossible to visit them all. Our friends in Ticino are telling us to pick one of the four regions and concentrate on the local growers there. Since there are two days for four regions\, you have the possibility to see up to half of the vineyards and their historic buildings. \nOpen Wine Cellar Days in Ticino\nWhen talking to wine growers\, I am always fascinated by the sheer passion they show for their products. In most cases\, we are looking at vineyards with a history over multiple generations. Skills and secrets have been passed on from grandfathers to fathers\, and from mothers to daughters. While I have visited winemakers in the Vaud region before\, I am looking forward to learn more about viticulture in Ticino this May! A combination of history and technology allows for this region's vintages to shine.  \nOne of my personal favorites is the typical white Merlot from Ticino\, so I will surely be looking out for my favorite bottle... Both on Saturday and Sunday\, participating cellars will be open from 10 AM to 6 PM. \nOur final advice: Bring along a designated driver or rent an e-bike to move between wine cellars. Many Swiss winemakers would love to agree with Miles. However\, there are a great many Merlot growers out there who would beg to differ. As a wine teacher myself\, I appreciate most wines\, and well-made Merlots fall into this class. \nChâteau Petrus 1982\, need I say more? Well alright then: \n\nTenuta dell’Ornellaia\nLa Mondotte\nCastello di Ama\nAmuse Bouche\nDuckhorn Vineyards' Three Palms\nIl Querceto (One of my Swiss favourites from Terreni alla Maggia)\n\n \nMondial du Merlot is the only competition exclusively dedicated to Merlot.\nIf you are into wines\, and especially Merlots and assemblages with Merlot\, you will not want to miss the final of the Mondial du Merlot being held at the Widder Hotel on May 16th. You will have the opportunity to try wines from 40 different producers coming from some 20 countries. Tasting these wines will show you the underlying characteristic of Merlot as well as regional differences coming from terroir\, climate and vinification. \nThe wines are categorized as follows: \n\nPure red Merlots\nRosés and Blancs de Noirs from Merlot\nOld vintages\nAssemblages\nGran Maestro du Merlot.\n\nThe general tasting is free to the public\, but you must secure a ticket before May 15th. There is also a workshop at 4 PM that can be attended for the cost of 30 francs. \nSo\, will you be drinking any Merlot?

Tap water is included in the price\, but wine and coffee may be ordered on site for an extra charge. \nRSVP your seat online (regular price: CHF 105\, vegetarian: CHF 85) \nAbout the farm "Zur Chalte Hose"\nThis organic farm Zur Chalte Hose near Zürich is home to a herd of Angus mother cows\, Pomeranian ducks\, Croatian turopolje pigs and horses. Also\, the name quite literally stands for cold pants. \nThe owners are Claudia Wanger and Nils Müller. They have set up the farm and are leading it with great dedication\, following the highest principles in terms of ethics\, ecology and treatment of animal species. \nAs the only Swiss farm\, they are allowed to slaughter cows on the pasture. Apart from the Farm Table event\, they run a farm shop and a typical small farm restaurant ("Beiz") where they serve an organic meal every other week.

For this special culinary event which runs parallel to the blockbuster exhibit "Osiris - Egypt’s Sunken Mysteries\," he has come up with an entirely plant based six course experience. \nExpect an evening of gourmet food\, art and nature.\nThe evening starts at 6 PM with a self guided tour of the exhibit. Learn amazing stories about Osiris and view sunken discoveries found off of Egypt's Mediterranean cost. At 7 PM\, the dinner will start in the summer pavilion of Museum Rietberg. For the six course meal\, the much acclaimed chef will be using mostly locally grown\, organic ingredients.
