Those who are deeper into photography will enjoy photoFORUM\, a podium where renowned photographers share their insights. The Hori sledge race is the time when you can see this interesting means of transportation being used to be fast - or last! \n \nAnd do not just stand there – rent a sledge yourself and rush down from the nearby Faulhorn to Grindelwald on the longest sledge track in the world (15 km)! \nTake the Postauto bus from Schwarzwaldalp to the top of the race track (last bus leaves at 11:30 AM). "Hanami" or 花見 quite literally stands for "flower viewing"\, and it is an important social activity for many Japanese.\n  \nThe Hanami Street Food Festival in Basel\nWhile sitting underneath blooming plum and cherry trees\, groups of friends will share snacks and enjoy what spring has in store. We count ourselves lucky because for one night in Basel\, we will get to experience a glimpse of hanami\, too! Restaurant Noohn at the "Kirschgarten" tram stop will be hosting a hanami celebration on April 10. (Coincidentally\, the name of the tram stop means "cherry orchard".) \nAn all-inclusive ticket costs 53 francs\, and we feel that this is an amazing "bang-for-the-buck" based on a previous event there. The more I learned about Peter Bence\, the more enthusiastic I became about seeing him on stage. \nHave you ever felt like singing along to a piano song? It was a first for me! Peter Bence is far from being a traditional pianist. The Hungarian talent revisits pieces of pop culture\, from Queen to the Beatles and to Michael Jackson. He even made me enjoy Despacito! (I never thought that would be possible!) \nThat guy is great! I never thought those sounds could come out of a piano. Just visit his YouTube channel to be convinced of his unique set of skills. The trumpeter of the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra\, Ashlin Parker\, has established this innovative project. The Trumpet Mafia is said to stage surprise gigs during JazzAscona\, so we we will surely keep our ears open for the sounds of their horns... In fact\, everyone is invited to join their afternoon sessions from June 23 to 29 - regardless of the level of experience. Events include everything from "rides" in amphibious vehicles to wakeboarding on the Limmat river. Have we mentioned camel rides and the 90 theme park rides? \n \nThe airshows at ZüriFäscht\nNot to miss are the airshows featuring the PC-7 Pilatus team or a Super Puma helicopter. DESCRIPTION:アルプスの少女ハイジ or "Arupusu no Shōjo Haiji": this is the title of the 1974 anime series that put the Swiss Alps on the map for many Japanese. \nIt is a story we all know too well: orphaned mountain girl is taken to the city yet yearns for the alps. Ever since the end of the 19th century\, Heidi has been conquering the world. But it was not until the release of the cartoon "Heidi\, Girl of the Alps" in Japan that Heidi turned into a global phenomenon. \nThe makers of the animated series went on to co-found the world-famous Studio Ghibli\, creator of numerous films and series. Now through October 13\, 2019\, the Swiss National Museum in Zürich is dedicating an exhibition to Heidi. The focus lies on the fusion of the Swiss and Japanese culture\, as well as on the evolution of the anime series. \n\n  \n"Heidi in Japan" Focus Day on Friday\, Aug 30\nFrom 9 AM to 4:30 PM\, the Swiss National Museum along with the University of Zurich will be hosting an exciting series of events. Among other things\, the University's Institute of Art History studies the Japanese view of Switzerland. The idealized image of Switzerland in the popular animated film series\, "Heidi\, Girl of the Alps"\, has contributed significantly to shaping that view. \nDuring this focus day\, you will get to discuss interesting questions such as "would Johanna Spyri still recognize her Heidi today?" or "can translations change a character?" The Zürich Casino was handing out Nintendo like Gameboys for participants\, and we received free refills on Ben and Jerry's ice cream! In my opinion\, the Allianz Outdoor Cinema in Zürich is something you do not want to miss out on. \nShowing more than 50'000 films over all these years is quite a record!
