SUMMARY:Meet a Renaissance great at Raffaello 3D (Bellinzona)
DESCRIPTION:After a successful 3D exhibit on Leonardo da Vinci\, Bellinzona is once again hosting a great figure of the Italian Renaissance period: the author and artist Raffaello.\n\nRaffaello\, or Raphael\, died at the young age of 37. Maybe this is part of the reason why the curators of Raffaello 3D have geared the exhibit towards young visitors. To commemorate the 500th anniversary of the artist's death\, they have rolled out the latest in interactive museum technology. And what better setting to delve into history than the Castello di Sasso Corbaro?\n\n \nRaffaello 3D: this interactive museum brings the man of the hour to life\n\nInside the exhibition\, you will get to admire Renaissance architecture through a virtual tour of the Ideal City\, a realistic 3D model. Also\, there is an AR experience allowing you to render a particularly realistic image taken from one of the most symbolic paintings. Some of Raffaello's most renowned artworks are also animated.\n\nWe like the use of AR technology as it superimposes information onto paintings and displays. And we have good news for those who worry that this exhibit wants you to become an expert on Raffaello. Instead of going deep\, the museum's aim is to broaden your horizon on a wide range of topics.\n\nBoth children and adults (and those in between) will surely enjoy walking around the castle with a tablet PC. Apart from a virtual treasure hunt and other hands-on displays\, these AR tablets will animate Renaissance paintings. As a result\, you will get to see Raffaello as if the man was standing right in front of you!\n\n \nGain an appreciation of the visual beauty of Italian Renaissance art\n\nThe exhibition attempts to give a comprehensive overview of the Italian Renaissance\, one of the most influential periods in art history\, by connecting Raffaello to other Renaissance giants such as Michelangelo\, Leonardo\, Bramante\, and others. And it shows why the Italian Renaissance is relevant to humankind as a whole.\n\n \nMore information\n \nOpening hours: Daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM\nAdmission: Adults 15 francs; children from 6 to 16 years/students/retirees 8 francs\, families (2 adults/3 children) 35 francs\n

SUMMARY:Lynchian Vibes in Olten - INFINITE DEEP DAVID LYNCH
DESCRIPTION:More than 3000 visitors have dived into the latest photography exhibit of David Lynch on show in Olten\, Switzerland. \nMulholland Drive\, Elephant Man\, or the cult television series Twin Peaks are some of David Lynch's biggest successes as a filmmaker. But not everyone may be aware that the acclaimed filmmaker is also an avid painter and photographer. \nHis latest photography exhibition\, INFINITE DEEP\, is currently showing at Haus der Fotografie in Olten. This venue has the distinct honor of being the first gallery in Europe to host the exhibition. INFINITE DEEP runs until the end of June\, so make sure you book your tickets now.\n  \nThoughts from a recent visit to the David Lynch exhibit in Olten\nFor those familiar with David Lynch’s body of work\, Infinite Deep shouldn’t be too much of a shock to the system. The artist/filmmaker is known for subverting idyllic suburban dreamlands by distorting them into nightmarish hellscapes. He likes to create a sense of unease in his audience\, and finds beauty in what lurks beneath the façade of perfection. \nInfinite Deep is an intimate journey through his vision as an artist. Spanning three floors\, the exhibition showcases several decades’ worth of Lynch’s photographic work\, as well as a short film. The melancholic and eerie ‘Polish Night Music’ score\, composed by Lynch and collaborator Marek Zebrowski\, is played throughout the gallery\, perfectly setting the scene for the exhibition. \nSome of the images on display on the ground floor\, from the series "Portraits" (2008)\, are reminiscent of the no-holds-barred "Twin Peaks: The Return\," from 2017. One can already see the machinations of Lynch’s mind in these photographs\, masterfully manipulated on Photoshop to remove masks and reveal what is hidden beneath.\n  \nFrom the "Portraits" collection (2008):\n \nOn the first floor\, visitors can explore Lynch’s "Nudes" and "Distorted Nudes" series\, the latter of which is displayed in a room restricted to those over the age of 16. In "Distorted Nudes"\, Lynch wields Photoshop like a madman's machete\, mutilating and dismembering what appears\, from a distance\, to be a perfectly normal collection of old erotic photographs. \n \nOn display on the third floor are the "Snowmen" and "Factories" series\, again revealing the artist’s fascination with decay and disintegration. "Snowmen" shows what happens after the joy and excitement of assembling snowmen wears off\, the parts we never get to see in family photos and popular films. Factories functions in the same way\, showing what happens to formerly lively industrial buildings\, abandoned and left to the mercy of nature.\n  \nHere is a peek at the "Snowmen" series (1993)\, a collection of photographs of abandoned snowmen melting away in families’ front yards. The dark humour of Lynch’s work is on full display in these images:\n \nA short\, animated film entitled "Fire" is also shown in a small room on the second floor\, accompanied by unsettling string music by Polish musicians Penderecki String Quartet. Lynch created the animation in 2015 but released it to the public during the lockdown in 2020. Bearing in mind the social isolation we’ve all experienced in the past year\, this short film becomes all the more relatable.\n  \nThe Gallery\nHoused in what was formerly a natural history museum\, the House of Photography has been renovated into a sleek\, modern gallery with excellent lighting\, spearheaded and funded by the International Photo Festival Olten (IPFO). \nThe House of Photography team\, though new to the museum scene\, are passionate and hardworking\, attested by how they assembled this impressive exhibition. Enlisting the expertise of curator Nathalie Herschdorfer was a stroke of genius\, as she displays the photographs in a way that seamlessly draws the eye over the images in a fluid motion. \n \nDon't miss out on the opportunity to see Lynch's disturbing but fascinating art up close and personal!\nThe House of Photography is truly a gem and is sure to put the town of Olten on the cultural and artistic map. Infinite Deep has been extended until July 25th so you still have time to experience the weird world of David Lynch! \nGet your tickets now and receive a 25% discount on the admission by traveling to Olten by train. Simply use the code LYNCHTRAIN25. \nFor those interested in photography in general\, this year’s International Photo Festival will be running from August 25 to 29. With over 60 workshops and masterclasses\, this will be your chance to mingle with like-minded people and brush shoulders with some of the best international photographers. The program will be released at the end of July on this website.\n

SUMMARY:SPORT X MANGA exhibit at the Olympic Museum
DESCRIPTION:Paying tribute to the TOKYO 2020 Olympic Games as well as Japanese pop culture\, the Olympic Museum in Lausanne now offers various special exhibits and events. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSPORT X MANGA exhibit\n\n\n\nWith manga being an integral part of Japanese culture\, it only makes sense that the museum went on to highlight its role in sports. A curious fact: the hosting of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo was already mentioned in the 1980s in the science fiction manga Akira by Otomo Katsuhiro! \n\n\n\nAs part of the SPORT X MANGA exhibit\, we get to learn all about Japan and how manga has influenced its relationship with sport. \n\n\n\nAmong many other titles\, the museum dedicates space to popular mangas such as Captain Tsubasa (a professional soccer player)\, or SLAM DUNK (a basketball player). For those who are clueless about manga\, there is an aptly named "Manga for Dummies" section... \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThrough November 23\, there will a series of activities at the museum and online. In Lausanne\, expect to see interactive displays and elements that demonstrate how fiction and the importance of sports in Japanese society often intersect. \n\n\n\nHence\, SPORT X MANGA was born\, an exhibit free of charge to the public. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCelebrating TOKYO 2020 online and at the museum\n\n\n\nThe entire museum exhibit has been designed in the colors of TOKYO 2020. Just take the museum gardens which now feature a series of gates similar to the torii leading up to Shinto shrines. Once inside\, you will be greeted by the cuddly mascots of this year's games. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA separate exhibit is dedicated entirely to this historic edition of the Olympic Games. For one\, it highlights the venues where the Games will be held this summer. The new National Stadium in Tokyo is available as a miniature model. And finally\, an AR app allows you to seemingly enter the stadium as an athlete would. \n\n\n\nBut the exhibit also presents the five sports making their debut at the Olympics\, such as skateboarding\, surfing\, sports climbing\, or karate. \n\n\n\nThe opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympic Games\, as well as all the competitions\, will be broadcast live at the museum. Live performances\, broadcasts\, or cultural workshops for families will round up all the ways we get to explore Japanese culture. \n\n\n\nAll photographs copyright Comité International Olympique (CIO) / Catherine Leutenegger

SUMMARY:"The Great Dictator" Exhibit at Chaplin's World in Vevey
DESCRIPTION:For its interactive museum and large collection\, Chaplin's World is a destination in its own right. Through the end of August\, the museum is dedicating a special exhibit to "The Great Dictator." \nAptly named "Chaplin and the Great Dictator: The Story of a Little Fish in an Ocean Full of Sharks\," this special exhibition explores some interesting questions: What did Charlie Chaplin do to prepare for his impersonation of Adolf Hitler's facial expressions and gestures? What about the parody names used in the movie? And what was Chaplin's later reaction to the revelation about the atrocities the Nazis had committed? \nAfter the exposure of the Nazi crimes\, what was Chaplin's reaction to his own film? The exhibit\, which is in German\, French\, and English\, takes visitors on a journey. It sets off by giving an overview of the movie. Previously unpublished photographs from assistant director Dan James showcase daily life on the film set. The images also reveal previously unpublished scenes and video tricks from Chaplin's first feature with sound. \nChaplin's World is open daily. Face masks are mandatory for all visitors\, and we recommend buying an admission ticket online for special savings.

SUMMARY:"Sauvage" is the perfect exhibit for families this summer
DESCRIPTION:The temporary exhibition "Sauvage" at the Natural History Museum in Neuchâtel is an eye-opening experience for children and adults alike. \n\n\n\nThe title "Sauvage" (French for "wild") conjures up many different interpretations from every individual\, so the curators asked people what word they thought of when they heard the word sauvage. They have then adorned the entrance to the exhibition with the most common responses. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSauvage is an immersive and interactive exhibition\, seeking to make learning fun for the whole family.\n\n\n\nThis temporary exhibit touches on themes such as mass tourism and extinction. It aims to show children (and remind adults) that animals are sentient and intelligent beings that have more in common with us than we like to believe. \n\n\n\nIt’s a great way to educate ourselves on the fragility of life on our planet. And it forces us to rethink why we believe ourselves to be the master race and why we exploit animals the way we do. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIf you are courageous enough to enter the seemingly alive object in the middle of a dark room\, you will be rewarded with a high-definition recording of animal sounds and vocalizations. Meanwhile\, the massive figure enveloping you inhales and exhales\, making for an exhilarating\, multi-sensory experience.  \n\n\n\nContinuing with the "wild" theme\, the exhibition also poses the question of what is still considered wild when it comes to animals. \n\n\n\nA video showing a serene vista of gazelle frolicking and feeding is quickly turned on its head when we view the screen on the other side of the wall\, revealing what goes on behind the scenes of a safari in Kenya. Is mass tourism blurring the definition of "wild"? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA perfect exhibit for the summer break\n\n\n\nThe education doesn’t stop there\, as there are plenty of interactive games and videos for families to enjoy\, including one where you listen to animal noises and try to figure out which of two animals is emanating the sound. The answers may surprise you! \n\n\n\nAfter exploring the indoor exhibition\, you can step into the courtyard to marvel at the work of artist Paolo Grassino\, depicting the hostility and vulnerability of the human species. \n\n\n\nThose wanting to extend their "Sauvage" experience may even camp in the courtyard overnight. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe exhibition runs until August 29\, so there is plenty of time to visit during the summer holidays. \n\n\n\nPlease note: the exhibition is mostly in French\, with some text written in German. An English-speaking guide can be requested for those who would like a more intimate tour. \n\n\n\nThe museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday\, 10 AM to 6 PM. Admission is 8 francs for adults\, 4 francs for students\, and free of charge for children 16 and under.

SUMMARY:Traditional Swiss Cow Fighting (Leukerbad)
DESCRIPTION:Imagine bullfighting in Spain. \nNow\, take away the bullring\, heat\, bulls and torreros and add mountains\, snow and a bunch of temperamental black cows with huge bells around their necks. \nWe are talking about Swiss cow fighting. These cow fights involve less human influence and violence compared to bullfighting. Instead\, fighting is a part of a cows' natural behavior for determining their place of dominance in the herd's hierarchy. \n \nEight typical Hérens cows from Valais will fight each other in a direct duel\, and the winner will be honored as the Queen. The traditional cow fights in Leukerbad offer a unique atmosphere\, and admission is free. So\, before you soak in those warm Leukerbad springs\, make sure you visit Flaschen for this event! \n(Photos copyright Leukerbad Tourismus/torrent.ch)

SUMMARY:Carnival Parade (Zürich)
DESCRIPTION:Fasnacht is the time of year when parts of Switzerland temporarily shut down due to excessive carnival festivities. \nZürich has more than 100 years of tradition when it comes to its carnival parade. Whether you go all out on a costume or simply put on some make-up\, hit the Bahnhofstrasse and enjoy the parade! The point is to forget about everyday hassles for a moment and simply give in to the confetti action\, the costumes and the sounds of the Guggemusig bands. \nOur advice: don't miss the carnival parade in Zürich's downtown streets on Sunday\, March 1. In a very carnival fashion\, it will start at exactly 2:31 PM... \nMore information

SUMMARY:Ballet Revolucion (Zürich)
DESCRIPTION:As part of their European tour\, the explosive dance show Ballet Revolución is returning to Switzerland once again! \nCuba is often associated with passionate music and dance. And the ensemble that is Ballet Revolución has figured out just the perfect mix which has audiences hooked the world over. Mixing classical ballet and contemporary street dance\, the dancers will have you tap your feet from the moment they appear on stage... \nAccording to those who have watched the show in the past\, the dancing is "explosive"\, "mesmerizing" and often "sensual". Adding depth to this brilliant show is the fact that Ballet Revolución was actually choreographed right at the National Theater right in Havanna\, Cuba! \nIf this were not enough\, the dancers will be fired on by a live band consisting of eight musicians. And you are bound to recognize many of the songs from the likes of Justin Timberlake\, Justin Bieber\, Adele or Enrique Iglesias! \nHaving seen shows at Halle 622 before\, we can only imagine how intense and vibrant the mambo beats of Ballet Revolucion are going to feel... In short: Don't plan on taking a breath for at least two hours! \nMore information or tickets from ticketcorner.ch \n

SUMMARY:The LES MISÉRABLES Musical is coming to Zürich in 2020
DESCRIPTION:Exciting times are coming up for Switzerland. For the first time in its history\, Swiss audiences will be enjoying the original English version of LES MISÉRABLES in 2020. \nThe brilliant new staging is inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo and his classic novel. Paired with its beloved melodies\, this musical has everything it takes to make our start into the new year a happy one. \nWhat you need to know about the LES MISÉRABLES Musical\nLES MISÉRABLES is the world’s longest running and most loved musical. It has garnered 100 prestigious international awards to its name. Inspired by Victor Hugo's novel\, this modern classic musical is as groundbreaking today as it was during its first premier in London in 1985. \nIt is an epic tale of redemption and passion. It is packed with an emotional wallop that continues to thrill worldwide audiences of all ages. Seen and enjoyed by over 120 million people in 52 countries and 22 languages\, LES MISÉRABLES is truly one of the world's best musicals. \nIn nineteenth century France\, Jean Valjean is an ex-convict who has been imprisoned for 19 years for stealing a bread loaf. Upon his release\, he receives mistrust and mistreatment everywhere he goes. This is until Bishop Myriel helps him to start a new life. However\, police inspector Javert hunts Valjean\, who has been living under the name Monsieur Madeleine... \nFinally\, a tragic climax. During the 1832 Paris student uprising\, Valjean spares his life to save that of the student revolutionary. The latter had captured the heart of the main character’s adopted daughter Cosette. Disgusted and horrified\, Javert commits suicide and Valjean attains the peace that he has sought for so long. \n \nAbout the original English version on tour\nWith countless hours of rehearsals between actors\, musicians and technicians\, each performance of the musical will transport you back to the France of the 19th century. The stunning Killian Donnelly is playing the lead role of Jean Valjean. Nic Greenshields will play Javert\, and gorgeous Katie Hall will be in the role of Fantine. \nYou will see Martin Ball\, Harry Apps\, Will Richardson\, Nicholas Corre\, Brian James Leys\, Ruben Van Keer\, Lee Ormsby\, and many others on stage. Other female ensembles will include Jamie Birkett\, Helen Aylott\, Mary-Jean Caldwell\, Bronwen Hanson and Megan Gardiner. The entire touring production is directed by James Powell and multi award-winner Laurence Connor. \nThe orchestra will perform operatic passages while reflecting feelings through their voices overflowing with sorrow\, joy\, and\, cries\, and giggles. The cast will perform in a way to keep every scene taut\, tense and perfectly timed. \nA musical that's all but miserable\nBasically\, what we are trying to say is that LES MISÉRABLES is sure to fill your soul with romance and throb. Cameron Mackintosh\, composer Claude-Michel Schönberg\, and musical script writer\, Alain Boublil\, have already successfully collaborated on several occasions. Among other productions\, LES MISÉRABLES and Miss Saigon went down in musical history. \nThe show is said to take approximately 2 hours 30 minutes\, including an interval. This is the original English version.. \nThe musical will take place from January 21 to February 23\, 2020. While this is still a while away\, why not secure tickets already? \nTheater 11\nThurgauerstrasse 7\n8050 Zürich\nPhone: 044 265 56 01 \n \n(Photographs copyright musical.ch)

SUMMARY:Let's play! An exhibit about the history of video games
DESCRIPTION:(Key visual copyright Swiss National Museum/Roli Hofer) \nPacman\, Tetris and Super Mario Bros. are names that bring up memories. Yet just a couple of decades ago\, video games were looked at as a gimmick. \nThis spring\, the Swiss National Museum in Zürich is dedicating a temporary exhibit to the history of video games. \nAs one of the world's top leisure activities\, video games have surely established themselves in popular culture. (Globally\, some 2.5 billion people play video games!) The evolution from Commodore 64 to today's virtual reality experiences in cyberspace is remarkable. \nThis exhibit looks at the 50-years old history of electronic games\, giving visitors lots of opportunities to get hands on. When is the last time you played Pacman? Personally\, I cannot wait to see this exhibit and get my game on... Who knows? I might even start to spend my lunch hours there! \nTest your skills in this browser based game especially developed for the exhibit. \nOpening hours: Tue - Sun 10 AM to 5 PM\, Thu 10 AM to 7 PM\, closed on Mon \nMore information \n \n(All photographs copyright Swiss National Museum)

SUMMARY:photoSCHWEIZ is coming back to Zürich in 2020
DESCRIPTION:Once the holiday dust has settled and the new year has kicked off\, we are always glad to find inspiration at photoSCHWEIZ. \nYou may remember the previous editions of Switzerland's largest photography exhibit\, such as photo19. In 2020\, the organizers have rebranded the exhibit to simply photoSCHWEIZ. \nMore than 300 photographers will be displaying their best works\, whereby 200 photographs will be part of the regular exhibit. The remaining pieces will be spread among 18 special exhibitions covering everything from documentary to nature photography. \nOne such exhibit is entitled "Doomed Paradise"\, a long term documentation of the rain forests of Borneo. Photographer Tomas Wüthrich has traveled there multiple times in order to visit with local residents who are fighting deforestation. I am particularly interested in this show because the recent feature film\, Paradise War\, about Bruno Manser\, has brought the Penan people back into popular consciousness. \nphotoSCHWEIZ workshops\nThose who want to further their photography skills or are considering a career as a photographer should look into the 120 workshops. Topics range from travel photography to aerial photography (held in English). \nphotoSCHWEIZ is open daily from 11 AM to 8 PM and tickets are available online.\n \n(Photograph copyright Ruth Spiller/photoSCHWEIZ)

And once again this November\, there's one coming back to Zürich! \nRelive the home computer years\, but also experience computers from from the 1950's to the 1970's. Remember the blinked rows of lights on massive front panels\, hidden in research labs\, universities and big companies? There is no admission for kids\, and they will be well catered for with a large Vintage Gaming section. \nExhibitors (both private collectors and museums) have made great efforts to engage families with children\, and not just computer enthusiasts\, with a varied\, fun but also educational experience. As it turns out\, a big computer from 1970 is not so hard to understand for people today. \nThe event is hosted in the Rote Fabrik at Seestrasse 395. \nFollow them on Twitter or check out the photo gallery from 2016.

SUMMARY:Traditional Onion Market - Zibelemärit (Bern)
DESCRIPTION:At the end of the chilly month of November\, Bern wakes up in the dark hours for the annual Onion Market. This tradition has been praising the humble little vegetable for nearly 200 years. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe one time of the year Bern goes bunkers over onions\n\n\n\nHere's what the atmosphere at the Onion Market is like: You see tons of perfected onion tresses all around you\, the smell of mulled wine\, garlic bread\, and onion pies is in the air\, there is confetti covering the streets (and people) and now and then you’re softly being hit by a squeaky hammer. \n\n\n\nThe masses of onions in this market are unbelievable. In 2015\, farmers from near and far sold nearly 60 tons of onions! \n\n\n\nThe best way to embrace this popular and very down-to-earth tradition is to put on your peppermint sugar bead necklace\, see and eat around\, and stroll among the busy streets of Bern until dawn. Countless stands not only offer onions but different local delicacies and crafts. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMy advice: To avoid the crowds\, visit the market before 6 AM.\n\n\n\nFor the truly brave\, the traditional Zibeleschwümme (Onion Swim) takes place on the Sunday before the market. At 1 PM at the Schönausteg\, watch the daredevil swimmers immerse in the bitterly cold Aare river.

SUMMARY:Circus Conelli is a Christmas tradition in Zürich
DESCRIPTION:Update from Nov 25\, 2019: We can no longer endorse this circus.\n\n\n\nAt tonight's VIP premiere\, the host urged us to spread the word if we like the show\, but not to share anything if we did not like it. The first half of the show was nothing to write home about. It was simply average. \n\n\n\nThen\, the mayor of Zurich\, Mrs. Corine Mauch\, introduced the second half. We wonder whether she knew about the racist clown number that would follow... Picture a cowboy patronizing a dumb Native American. The cowboy goes on to whip the Native American. \n\n\n\nThe so-called "VIP audience"\, including the former head of SVP\, Christoph Blocher\, was roaring about the dumb clowns and their embarrassing jokes in Swiss-English. We felt appalled by the insensitivity of this circus and we would urge Circus Conelli to remove this act. \n\n\n\nWe live in the 21st century and we feel deeply ashamed that an insensitive\, racist clown act can be performed right in the heart of Zürich.

SUMMARY:Visit Santa Claus at Rochers de Naye! (Montreux Noël)
DESCRIPTION:High above Lake Geneva is the peak of Rochers de Naye\, a destination reachable by cogwheel train from Montreux. \nThis Winter Wonderland is not only a favorite among those looking for a refreshing getaway\, but also among a bearded man and his helpers: Santa Claus! That's right: in his hut (which is conveniently accessible from the railway station)\, the old man welcomes children of all ages during the holidays. \nA photograph with Santa Claus at Rochers de Naye\nBeyond the magic tunnel with its flashing lights\, there is a small stage for the meet-and-greet and the picture taking. As we found out on our recent trip\, Santa Claus speaks many different languages - from Russian to Japanese\, English and French. There is an official photographer\, but anyone is allowed to take their own pictures at no charge. \n \nDuring Montreux Noël\, Santa Claus can be visited Wednesdays through Sundays\, as well as on Monday\, Dec 23\, and Tuesday\, Dec 24\, 2019.\n \nBut Rochers de Naye offers plenty of activities and things to see during any day of the festive season. The kids can gather stamps on a scavenger hunt and they can even peek into Santa's bedroom. Meanwhile\, the scenic panorama at 2042 meters above sea invites for memorable selfies. \nRestaurant Le Coucou in Caux\nOn our way back to Montreux Noël\, we hopped off the cogwheel train in Caux above Mntreux. Just footsteps from the station is Restaurant Le Coucou\, a charming chalet serving local favorites. Try the cheese platter for some unique local fromage: \n\n  \nMore information about Santa Claus at Rochers de Naye\nA part of Montreux Noël\, Santa's House at Rochers de Naye offers a perfect excursion for families. Check the website of MOB GoldenPass for various special offers combining the return trip and visit of Santa's House. Reservations are required as seats are limited. \nThe train to Rochers de Naye leaves from Montreux hourly starting from 9:17 AM to 3:17 PM. \nMore information about Montreux Noël\, and here is a post about our previous visit.

SUMMARY:THE KING AND I Musical is coming to Zürich
DESCRIPTION:Straight from the golden age of musicals\, meet THE KING AND I! \nAfter a record breaking season at The London Palladium\, the musical is now embarking on a world tour. This will be the first time for the current production of THE KING AND I to stop in Switzerland. \nWhat you need to know about the musical THE KING AND I\nThe story takes place in Bangkok around 1860. Anna\, a British teacher\, arrives in Bangkok during these imperialistic times. She will be visiting the court of the King of Siam in order to teach his highness and the 67 children in modernist ways. But with her brave and strong-willed nature\, she turns the royal court upside down. Without giving anything away\, there will be tragedy and romance... \nThe musical is based on the novel Anna and the King of Siam. It first appeared on Broadway in 1951. One year later\, it was a hit at the box office\, winning a Tony Award for "Best Musical". \nBut its revival has been critically acclaimed as well. In 1996 and 2015\, THE KING AND I has won Tony Awards for "Best Revival". And finally\, you might remember the 1999 movie adaptation starring Jodie Foster. \nThis is the fifth musical by the Rodgers and Hammerstein team. The two have drummed up a large orchestra and 50 outstanding artists. I am very much looking forward to hearing the live performances of songs such as Shall We Dance\, Getting To Know You\, or Whistle A Happy Tune. \nAbout the original UK cast\nThe cast for this musical includes Kok-Hwa Liein in the role of Kralahome\, and Aaron Teoh as Prince Chulalongkorn. William M Lee will play Phra Alak\, and Edward Baker Duly will take on dual roles of Orton and Ramsay. \nAmong the male ensemble are Steven Hardcastle\, Prem Rai\, Joaquin Pedro Valdes\, Jesse Milligan\, Eu Jin Hwang\, and Irvine Ray Abesamis. The female ensemble includes Misa Koide\, Ela Lisondra\, Ena Yamaguchi\, Miiya Alexandra\, Yuki Abe\, and Aiko Kato. \nThis revival of THE KING AND I musical has designs by Michael Yeargan as well as light designs by Donald Holder. Scott Lehrerm provides the sound design\, and costumes were designed by Catherine Zuber. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to witness this spectacular musical. Unless you are planning to travel abroad\, it will never be more convenient to see it than this winter in Zürich... \nHere is what reviewers in London have said about THE KING AND I\nThe producer of the musical\, Howard Panter\, has declared that “the response from London audiences to this multi-award winning production was unexpected." In addition\, WhatsOnStage also gave the show a four-star review saying that "It’s very hard to not to fall for the King and I\, which features some of the loveliest songs in musical theatre sung by an absolutely crack cast. The songs included in the musical were Getting to Know You\, Whistle A Happy Tune\, and Shall We Dance?" \nThe musical takes approximately 3 hours including an interval. This is the original UK version in English. It is recommended for children aged 8 years or older. \nGet your tickets at Ticketcorner \nTheater 11\nThurgauerstrasse 7\n8050 Zürich \n \n(Key visual copyright musical.ch)

SUMMARY:The third annual Le Salon du Design is coming back to Geneva
DESCRIPTION:Geneva's first 20th century design fair\, Le Salon du Design\, is coming back for a third edition. \nThis year\, the participating shops and galleries will be highlighting 100 years of design history. We expect the Le Salon du Design to be quite an experience as it showcases on postmodern furniture\, Bauhaus styles\, Scandinavian design and vintage design from Switzerland\, Italy and France. Visitors will have the chance to step through time and space in this exhibit that places quality over quantity. \nOne of the highlights will surely be the fiberglass shells made famous by Charles and Ray Eames. But we are also excited about the exhibition featuring (and selling) the most iconic productions of Swiss design. \nThe organic architecture of the Pavillon Sicli\, designed in the 1960s by Heinz Isler\, offers the ideal setting for authentic pieces from the 1920s to 1985. Swiss and international dealers are holding their most beautiful finds for the visitors of Le Salon du Design in Geneva as a preview of the major European events that will be held later on. \nTickets are 5 francs for those above 12 years of age. The exhibit is open as follows: Sat from 10 AM to 8 PM\, Sun from 10 AM to 6 PM. \n(Both photographs copyright Corine Stübi/Le Salon du Design)

SUMMARY:Cocktails & Dreams is screening E.T. this Halloween (Zürich)
DESCRIPTION:When are aliens least noticed? Of course\, on Halloween! \nThis Halloween\, the Houdini Kino/Bar in Zürich will be showing the cult film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. This screening is part of the "Cocktail & Dreams" series which is entirely dedicated to the 80s. There will even be a disco afterwards! I remember the time my dad took me to the theater to watch "E.T." - it's about time to relive the story all over. \nThe ticket price of 22 francs includes the admission to the Houdini\, a cocktail and the subsequent mini disco in the Houdini Bar. \nMore information and tickets\n
