SUMMARY:Wise Hearts: The Beauty of Aging Dogs (Photography)
DESCRIPTION:There are dogs who have walked beside their families for a decade or more. They might be greying at the muzzle\, are slower on the stairs\, but are no less present in the heart of a home. \n\n\n\nWise Hearts: The Beauty of Aging Dogs\, Celebrated Through Portraits and Love Letters is a fine art photography exhibition that asks us to pause\, look closely\, and recognize the quiet magnificence of growing old together. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Story Behind the Lens\n\n\n\nHeather Ennis of Mont Blanc Photography has reached out to us about her exhibit\, and we loved the idea. While we never had a pet dog\, we did have a cat who turned 17 years of age. So\, the idea of honoring senior pets through photography really resonated with me. \n\n\n\nWith Wise Hearts\, Heather turned her lens toward senior dogs from across western Switzerland. The collection of photographs is very diverse\, but has a shared emotional connector. \n\n\n\nEach portrait is accompanied by a handwritten love letter from the dog's family. Exhibited side by side\, photographs and words form an intimate display of devotion. \n\n\n\n"Grace" (Copyright Mont Blanc Photography/Heather Ennis)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA Story That Will Stay With You\n\n\n\nAmong the exhibition's most powerful narratives is that of Grace\, a small black Labrador who suffered devastating spinal injuries following a road accident. When euthanasia was being considered\, Oasis des vétérans in Vaulruz stepped in\, committing to a long and painstaking rehabilitation programme. \n\n\n\nGrace was eventually adopted by a Swiss cop and today lives with permanent disability. By all accounts\, she lives happily ever after... \n\n\n\nHer story is about survival\, but also about what becomes possible when people choose not to give up. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSupport for Oasis des Vétérans\n\n\n\nAccording to Heather\, a portion of all print and book sales at the exhibit will directly benefit Oasis des vétérans. This organisation offers a refuge to senior cats and dogs\, ensuring they receive the dignified\, love-filled retirement they deserve. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPractical Information\n\n\n\n\nExhibition dates: March 21–27\, 2026\n\n\n\nLocation: Au Temps Qui Passe\, Rte de Coinsins 1\, 1272 Genolier\, Vaud\n\n\n\nVernissage: March 21 (Ticketed due to limited gallery capacity)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGenolier sits just above the shores of Lake Geneva\, so it's easily reachable from Lausanne\, Geneva or Nyon. \n\n\n\nBuy tickets to the vernissage \n\n\n\nAnd purchase the book that accompanies the show \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhether you arrive as a dog owner\, a photography enthusiast\, or simply someone who appreciates storytelling done with care\, Wise Hearts is the kind of exhibition that lingers long after you've left the gallery. \n\n\n\nCome and meet the dogs. Read the letters. And perhaps leave with a new appreciation for everything that grows more beautiful with time.

SUMMARY:Festival Images in Vevey 2022
DESCRIPTION:Festival Images in Vevey is an enormous street art festival that showcases the best in visual arts. This outdoor experience returns for the eighth time in 2022. \n\n\n\nThose who have followed us may recall that we have visited the Festival Images in previous years. The last edition in 2020 left us with vivid memories of Vevey’s fountains\, buildings\, and parks enveloped in art. \n\n\n\nThe festival organizers have announced various indoor exhibits\, outdoor installations\, and large-scale murals across Vevey this year. And we were stoked to have reported on-site during the opening weekend! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHere are the 2022 Festival Images highlights:\n\n\n\nThis year’s theme is prone to creating a sense of community: Together. La vie ensemble. It illuminates togetherness relating to all aspects of life: culture\, cuisine\, family\, love\, politics\, sports\, religion\, tourism\, science\, and technology. \n\n\n\nThe common theme of photography unites the 50 installations by artists from around the world. Among the 25 nations represented at Festival Images Vevey are Japan\, Guatemala\, Spain\, and South Africa. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow about this temporary minigolf track by Lake Geneva? Each track is built around a photographs\, and some of the challenges are pretty hard... Can you guess who won? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNear Salle del Castillo\, American artist Diana Markosian has recreated her family history as a TV soap opera. Entitled Santa Barbara\, this multimedia experience offers visual storytelling at its best. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTeju Cole\, a Nigerian-American photographer\, has captured tourism in Switzerland from unique vantage points: \n\n\n\nCopyright Teju Cole\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFestival Images is not merely about displaying photographs. It is an immersive experience in that the art is displayed in just the right location. For instance\, this photograph of a cat by Mimi Mollica is inside a building with a mouse door entrance. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAfter a quick coffee\, we head over to the Swiss Camera Museum. Escapism by Swiss artist Roger Eberhard is a must-see exhibit. Believe it or not\, but each print shows a magnified creamer lid! According to the artist\, these lids allow us to go on micro escapes during everyday life: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDuring the three-week festival\, Vevey is being transformed into an outdoor art museum. We love to go on walks to stumble upon unique murals such as this one by Thomas Struth. It showcases Manhattan in the 1970's. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat are you waiting for? Run\, don't walk to Vevey! And keep an eye out for our announcement of the next edition of the biennale in 2024! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHave you been to Festival Images Vevey? SUMMARY:Lynchian Vibes in Olten - INFINITE DEEP DAVID LYNCH
DESCRIPTION:More than 3000 visitors have dived into the latest photography exhibit of David Lynch on show in Olten\, Switzerland. \nMulholland Drive\, Elephant Man\, or the cult television series Twin Peaks are some of David Lynch's biggest successes as a filmmaker. But not everyone may be aware that the acclaimed filmmaker is also an avid painter and photographer. \nHis latest photography exhibition\, INFINITE DEEP\, is currently showing at Haus der Fotografie in Olten. This venue has the distinct honor of being the first gallery in Europe to host the exhibition. INFINITE DEEP runs until the end of June\, so make sure you book your tickets now.\n  \nThoughts from a recent visit to the David Lynch exhibit in Olten\nFor those familiar with David Lynch’s body of work\, Infinite Deep shouldn’t be too much of a shock to the system. The artist/filmmaker is known for subverting idyllic suburban dreamlands by distorting them into nightmarish hellscapes. He likes to create a sense of unease in his audience\, and finds beauty in what lurks beneath the façade of perfection. \nInfinite Deep is an intimate journey through his vision as an artist. Spanning three floors\, the exhibition showcases several decades’ worth of Lynch’s photographic work\, as well as a short film. The melancholic and eerie ‘Polish Night Music’ score\, composed by Lynch and collaborator Marek Zebrowski\, is played throughout the gallery\, perfectly setting the scene for the exhibition. \nSome of the images on display on the ground floor\, from the series "Portraits" (2008)\, are reminiscent of the no-holds-barred "Twin Peaks: The Return\," from 2017. One can already see the machinations of Lynch’s mind in these photographs\, masterfully manipulated on Photoshop to remove masks and reveal what is hidden beneath.\n  \nFrom the "Portraits" collection (2008):\n \nOn the first floor\, visitors can explore Lynch’s "Nudes" and "Distorted Nudes" series\, the latter of which is displayed in a room restricted to those over the age of 16. In "Distorted Nudes"\, Lynch wields Photoshop like a madman's machete\, mutilating and dismembering what appears\, from a distance\, to be a perfectly normal collection of old erotic photographs. \n \nOn display on the third floor are the "Snowmen" and "Factories" series\, again revealing the artist’s fascination with decay and disintegration. "Snowmen" shows what happens after the joy and excitement of assembling snowmen wears off\, the parts we never get to see in family photos and popular films. Factories functions in the same way\, showing what happens to formerly lively industrial buildings\, abandoned and left to the mercy of nature.\n  \nHere is a peek at the "Snowmen" series (1993)\, a collection of photographs of abandoned snowmen melting away in families’ front yards. The dark humour of Lynch’s work is on full display in these images:\n \nA short\, animated film entitled "Fire" is also shown in a small room on the second floor\, accompanied by unsettling string music by Polish musicians Penderecki String Quartet. Lynch created the animation in 2015 but released it to the public during the lockdown in 2020. Bearing in mind the social isolation we’ve all experienced in the past year\, this short film becomes all the more relatable.\n  \nThe Gallery\nHoused in what was formerly a natural history museum\, the House of Photography has been renovated into a sleek\, modern gallery with excellent lighting\, spearheaded and funded by the International Photo Festival Olten (IPFO). \nThe House of Photography team\, though new to the museum scene\, are passionate and hardworking\, attested by how they assembled this impressive exhibition. Enlisting the expertise of curator Nathalie Herschdorfer was a stroke of genius\, as she displays the photographs in a way that seamlessly draws the eye over the images in a fluid motion. \n \nDon't miss out on the opportunity to see Lynch's disturbing but fascinating art up close and personal!\nThe House of Photography is truly a gem and is sure to put the town of Olten on the cultural and artistic map. Infinite Deep has been extended until July 25th so you still have time to experience the weird world of David Lynch! \nGet your tickets now and receive a 25% discount on the admission by traveling to Olten by train. Simply use the code LYNCHTRAIN25. \nFor those interested in photography in general\, this year’s International Photo Festival will be running from August 25 to 29. With over 60 workshops and masterclasses\, this will be your chance to mingle with like-minded people and brush shoulders with some of the best international photographers. The program will be released at the end of July on this website.\n

SUMMARY:photoSCHWEIZ is coming back to Zürich in 2020
DESCRIPTION:Once the holiday dust has settled and the new year has kicked off\, we are always glad to find inspiration at photoSCHWEIZ. \nYou may remember the previous editions of Switzerland's largest photography exhibit\, such as photo19. In 2020\, the organizers have rebranded the exhibit to simply photoSCHWEIZ. \nMore than 300 photographers will be displaying their best works\, whereby 200 photographs will be part of the regular exhibit. The remaining pieces will be spread among 18 special exhibitions covering everything from documentary to nature photography. \nOne such exhibit is entitled "Doomed Paradise"\, a long term documentation of the rain forests of Borneo. Photographer Tomas Wüthrich has traveled there multiple times in order to visit with local residents who are fighting deforestation. I am particularly interested in this show because the recent feature film\, Paradise War\, about Bruno Manser\, has brought the Penan people back into popular consciousness. \nphotoSCHWEIZ workshops\nThose who want to further their photography skills or are considering a career as a photographer should look into the 120 workshops. Topics range from travel photography to aerial photography (held in English). \nphotoSCHWEIZ is open daily from 11 AM to 8 PM and tickets are available online.\n \n(Photograph copyright Ruth Spiller/photoSCHWEIZ)

SUMMARY:photo19 kicks off Zürich's year of events
DESCRIPTION:This January\, there is a particular event we look forward to the most: photo19. \nIt is always fascinating to view such a wide variety of photographs which were produced by amateurs and professionals alike. From advertising to fashion photography\, and from documentary shots to portraits: photo19 is promising to take us on a journey to places near and far. \nWhile the more than 250 photographers are both national and international\, we always enjoy the honest looks at Switzerland. SUMMARY:Switzerland's doing PHOTO LAUNDRY in Zürich
DESCRIPTION:For the fourth time\, the Photo International Club Zurich provides a unique opportunity to all local photographers regardless of experience level. \nYes\, we're looking at you! During PHOTO LAUNDRY\, show off your creative work in an improvised gallery made of laundry lines under open sky. The original idea of such an exhibition was born in St Petersburg\, Russia\, in 2010. Since then\, similar events have been organized in over 100 cities all over the world. Being the only "photo laundry" event in Switzerland so far\, PICZ has been organizing this event annually since 2015. \nIn order to participate at PHOTO LAUNDRY\, the photographs must be your work and they need to fit one of these (deliberately broad) themes:\n- Landscape/Nature\n- Street Photography\n- Multiple-/Long Exposure\n- Architecture/City Scape \nUp to three pictures per topic are allowed to be entered. The cool part is that you will be able to exchange your photographs according to the principle of "bring one – take one." (Pictures will be sheltered in case of rain. Or in the case of very bad weather\, the exhibition might be moved inside.) \nYou are welcome to write your name and a short message to the future owner on your pictures. The exhibition will feature photographs taken on analog and digital cameras. \nThe event is taking place at Quartierhaus 5 in Zürich. Participation is free of charge and everyone is welcome!

SUMMARY:World Press Photo Exhibition 2018 (Zürich)
DESCRIPTION:It is the time of year when the world's best press photographs are on display in Zürich. \nWorld Press Photo is an exhibit that shows the world through the lens of press photographers. The courageous men and women are there when a crisis takes place\, capturing humanity during its weakest moments. Be it the unfolding of the refugee crisis\, wars and conflicts\, social issues or protests\, press photographers are on site to document the events unfolding and to share these impressions with the rest of us. \n\n  \nThis year\, new forms of photo and video journalism will supplement the World Press Photo Exhibition.\nThe following are some first-hand impressions captured by our own press photographer\, Cloudia Chen\, when she attended a media preview. The tour was narrated by Mr. Jerzy Brinkhof\, the curator of World Press Photo\, as well as Mrs. Magdalena Herrera\, President of the World Press Photo jury and Director of Photography at GEO France. \n \n \n \nMore information about World Press Photo Exhibition 2018. All photography are copyright Cloudia Chen.

SUMMARY:Take a 3D Selfie at the TWINSIE Lab in Zürich
DESCRIPTION:How many selfies have you snapped this week? Thought so! \nIn order to take a selfie of a different kind\, we recently visited a new pop-up gallery in Zürich. Run by ifolor\, the Swiss family business that has been printing our photographs for nearly sixty years\, the TWINSIE technology is a step into the future. That's because a TWINSIE is a selfie on Steroids: It is a photo-realistic miniature replica in 3D! \nThanks to the latest 3D printing technique and the patient artists at ifolor in Kreuzlingen\, we will soon receive a package with our own Mini Me's. The printing process for each miniature model takes anywhere from eight to twelve hours. The scale is 1:10\, so about 17 cm in height for myself. And finally\, thanks to an extreme level of detail with some 390'000 color shades\, I expect my miniature self to be as realistic as can be. \n\n  \nThe TWINSIE Pop-up Gallery by ifolor\nThe location of the TWINSIE pop-up gallery is just a few steps from Zürich's Viadukt market. There\, the renowned interior designer\, Martina Nievergelt\, has created an abstract world consisting of whitewashed furniture and accessories. A small tribe of 3D printed figurines is nestled in between the lamps and picture frames\, making this a fun place for discovery. \nAt the center of the room\, there is a large photo booth boasting some 68 individual cameras. Based on our height\, these cameras will record several different positions for each participant. So you could play around by striking a pose or simply looking straight ahead. \n \nIt is free of charge to step into the photo booth and have your pictures taken. A short while later\, you will receive access to see your shots online\, from where you can decide to place an order. The introductory price is 149 francs plus shipping. \nThe 3D pop-up lab at Limmatstrasse 285 is open Mondays through Fridays from noon to 8 PM\, Saturdays from noon to 5 PM. Learn more and reserve your time slot before the end of March. \n(All photographs copyright ifolor)

If you have been shooting in "automatic" mode for a while\, but are struggling to get consistent results\, this course may be perfect for you... \nEach of our three course sessions takes place on a Saturday from 10 AM until 4:30 PM at the Viewfinder in Zürich: \n- Oct 8\n- Oct 22\n- Nov 5 \nThe approach of Matt Anderson and his team is to offer friendly\, hands-on learning that familiarizes participants with their camera’s functions. SUMMARY:PHOTO LAUNDRY Exhibit (Zürich)
DESCRIPTION:Do you remember the pre-digital times when photographs had to be manually developed and hung up to dry? For the second time in Zürich\, PHOTO LAUNDRY is picking up that custom with a very fun photo gallery. \nOn June 5\, photographers of all ages and from all walks of life will come together in an interactive street photo exhibition and exchange. The name PHOTO LAUNDRY hints at the simple concept behind this photo exhibit: Photographers will get a platform to display their projects and will get education on tricks of the trade by industry experts. \nThe exhibition will feature photographs taken on analog and digital cameras. Works will be themed according to four popular genres: Street/urban photography\, landscape/nature photography\, macro photography and abstract photography. \nThe original idea was born in St Petersburg\, Russia\, in 2010. Since then\, similar events have been organized in over 100 Russian cities and in Europe\, attracting more than 45'000 participants. \nTo participate\, bring at least one printed or developed picture to hang on the laundry line. \nThis event is organized by the Photo International Club Zurich (PICZ). Admission is free. \n(Photograph copyright by Michael Gäbler/Wikimedia)

SUMMARY:photo15 Exhibit (Zürich)
DESCRIPTION:Zürich is once again hosting the photography exhibit photo15. This year marks the 10th anniversary\, which speaks to the popularity of Switzerland’s largest photography exhibit. \nThe organizers of photo15 have invited some 125 Swiss (and some international) photographers to highlight their best photographic work. We believe that the formerly industrial halls of Maag are a perfect setting for photography. Last year alone\, some 23‘000 visitors have mingled among the artwork during the weekend exhibit. \nThere will be special exhibits at the Flux Laboratory in the nearby Schiffbau: "PRIVATE! A SMALL COLLECTION" and "A BLAST FROM THE PAST - HOLLYWOODS SECRET GAY AFFAIR". \nAdditionally\, the photoFORUM will host the world renowned war photographer James Nachtwey. He has been contributing to TIME Magazine for more than 30 years\, and he will be talking about his work at the world's front lines. \n(Photography Credit: Caroline Micaela Hauger)

SUMMARY:Andrea Garbald Photography Exhibit (Chur)
DESCRIPTION:(Giovanni and Annetta Giacometti with their four children Alberto\, Diego\, Bruno and Ottilia (ltr)\, 1909\, original print\, 16 x 21 cm/25.5 x 33.8 cm (Privately held)\, © 2014 Fondazione Garbald\, Castasegna) \nThe Bergell valley is commonly known as the birthplace of famous Swiss sculptor Alberto Giacometti. It may have been the valley's special panorama which inspired one of his contemporaries\, Andrea Garbald (1877-1958)\, to start documenting it on film. \nTheir paths ultimately crossed when Garbald was commissioned to portray the Giacommeti family. It is this group photograph that has become his most iconic and well known output. Meanwhile\, much of the intricate\, day-to-day documentation of the cultural history of Bergell has been largely underappreciated. \n(Soglio\, 1905\, original print\, 9.7 x 12.8 cm\, © 2014 Fondazione Garbald\, Castasegna) \nFor the first time\, the lifetime achievement of Andrea Garbald will be shown to the public at the Bündner Kunstmuseum in Chur. Having spent almost his entire life in the Bergell\, Garbald has left a never before seen collection of photographs in print and in negative. The new exhibit allows you to dive into the culture\, nature and life of this valley and the photographer behind the lens. \nThe exhibition is linked to the 150 year anniversary of Villa Garbald. On this occasion\, the first monograph about the photographer and artist is being published.

DESCRIPTION:The winners of the World Press Photo 14 contest have been announced! \nAmerican photographer John Stanmeyer won "World Press Photo of the Year 2013". The awarded image shows African migrants on the shore of Djibouti city at night\, raising their phones in an attempt to capture an inexpensive signal from neighboring Somalia - a tenuous link to relatives abroad. \nDjibouti is a common stop-off point for migrants in transit from such countries as Somalia\, Ethiopia and Eritrea\, seeking a better life in Europe and the Middle East. Stanmeyer shot the picture for National Geographic on February 26\, 2013. \nThe winning photograph along with the others selected will be presented by KEYSTONE at Sihlcity's Folium in Zürich. \n(Photograph copyright by John Stanmeyer/VII Photo Agency for National Geographic)
