SUMMARY:Moulin Rouge The Musical Dazzles Zurich in 2026
DESCRIPTION:Copyright musical.ch\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n"Spectacular\, spectacular!" Zurich\, prepare for an electrifying start to 2026 as Moulin Rouge The Musical takes center stage. This Tony Award-winning production\, inspired by Baz Luhrmann's cinematic masterpiece\, delivers an explosion of artistry and acting. \n\n\n\nFor us internationals in Switzerland\, this English-language musical offers an invitation to immerse ourselves in a world of pure\, unadulterated entertainment. I still remember watching the Moulin Rouge movie for the first time - and I was truly dazzled! \n\n\n\nNow\, I’m very curious to find out whether the critics were right… They’ve touted this musical to be an exhilarating spectacle unlike any other. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Moulin Rouge The Musical\n\n\n\nMoulin Rouge The Musical is based on Baz Luhrmann's 2001 film of the same name\, starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor. The story follows Christian\, a young writer who falls in love with Satine\, the star of the Moulin Rouge\, amidst the backdrop of the Montmartre district of Paris in the late 19th century. \n\n\n\nWith ten Tony Awards\, Moulin Rouge The Musical has sold out many times the world over! \n\n\n\nNow\, as it makes its Swiss debut\, Zurich's Theater 11 becomes the hottest ticket in town\, promising to unite internationals from all walks of life in a shared experience of music\, drama\, and sheer extravaganza. \n\n\n\nIn short: It will make anyone who’s not at Theater 11 feel the FOMO! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSince its release\, Moulin Rouge! has had a significant impact on pop culture. (Note the exclamation mark in the official name!) It has popularized the concept of mashup music\, blending classics and modern hits. This approach has since inspired a wave of other musicals and movies. \n\n\n\nDon't miss this opportunity to experience the magic of Moulin Rouge The Musical in Zurich. Book your tickets now\, and see you at the show! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCopyright musical.ch\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrequently Asked Questions\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n How can I secure tickets for Moulin Rouge The Musical? For more information and to purchase tickets\, head straight to Ticketcorner. With popular shows such as this\, I always advise to book tickets early to avoid missing out on the good seats. \n \n \n \n \n \n How long is the show? The entire musical performance runs approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes\, including an interval. \n \n \n \n \n \n What are the best seats to book at Theater 11?We always prefer middle seats in the middle section. For Moulin Rouge\, we've read that the "Can Can" seats way up front offer some fun interactions with the cast. However\, you may need to stretch your neck a bit...Middle seats in the front section still provide good interaction without being too intense. And as with most musicals\, the front of the mezzanine/balcony section offers excellent views to appreciate the choreography. \n \n \n \n \n \n What is the recommended age for the show? The musical is recommended for audiences aged 12 and older. This is due to the mature themes and some suggestive content\, which may not be suitable for younger children. \n \n \n \n \n \n Are there any language concerns? Is it all in French? No worries! Moulin Rouge The Musical is entirely in English. But even for non-native English speakers\, the storyline is easy to follow and the music is universal. So\, regardless of your language proficiency\, the visual storytelling and iconic music allows you to sit back and follow along... \n \n \n \n \n \n What time should I arrive at Theater 11?We always recommend arriving at Theater 11 a bit early to enjoy the pre-show atmosphere. Take a moment to appreciate the venue and mingle with fellow attendees. Some may even be dressed to the occasion! \n \n \n \n \n \n Will there be a dress code?No\, there's no strict dress code for Moulin Rouge. But we can imagine that more than a few people will dress up\, adding to the excitement of the evening. So\, feel free to dress in a way that makes you feel special and part of the occasion.

SUMMARY:Sechseläuten 2025 Parade in Zurich: Details and Insights
DESCRIPTION:Copyright Cloudia Chen\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSechseläuten (pronounced: zeks-e-loy-ten) is a traditional spring holiday in Zurich that takes place on the third Monday of April. This year\, it falls on April 21\, 2025. \n\n\n\nTo outsiders\, this Zurich spring festival is best described as a kind of Groundhog Day. The protagonists? Camels\, a parade of men in medieval costumes on horseback\, and a snowman with an explosive head. \n\n\n\nThe name Sechseläuten literally means "the six o'clock ringing of the bells." It dates back to a medieval tradition when the city's guilds would switch from winter to summer working hours. During winter\, work would end when the church bells rang at 5 PM\, but in summer\, the workday would extend until 6 PM. \n\n\n\nToday\, Sechseläuten is celebrated with a colorful parade of Zurich's traditional guilds and the burning of the Böögg\, a snowman effigy symbolizing winter. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSunday: Sechseläuten Children's Parade\n\n\n\nSunday is dedicated to children with the traditional children's parade (Kinderumzug). The parade begins at 2:30 PM\, taking spectators on a historical journey through Zurich's different time periods and history. It features music groups\, wagons\, animals\, and children in historical costumes or traditional dress. \n\n\n\nThe parade is accompanied by the opening group from the guest canton\, various youth music groups and guild bands\, as well as numerous carriages and wagons\, all drawn by horses. The Böögg snowman marks the end of the children's parade. \n\n\n\nCopyright Cloudia Chen\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAny child can participate in the children's parade – the only requirement is a historical costume or traditional dress. Online registrations for costume rentals usually open a couple of months before Sechseläuten in late February. \n\n\n\nAt the end of the parade\, children meet at the Kongresshaus for Zvieri before being picked up by their parents. This afternoon snack is included in the participation fee. \n\n\n\nCopyright Cloudia Chen\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSunday: Meeting the Guest Canton on Lindenhof\n\n\n\nDuring Sechseläuten\, the Lindenhof becomes the "Place of Cantons." Since 1991\, the anniversary year of the Swiss Confederation\, the Zurich guilds have invited a Swiss canton to Sechseläuten each year. \n\n\n\nThe guest canton presents itself on the Lindenhof\, an elevated square in the middle of the city. By inviting a guest canton\, Zurich maintains strong relationships with other parts of Switzerland. And for the cantons\, the appearance at Sechseläuten in Zurich represents a platform to present their best foods\, tourism offerings\, and traditions. \n\n\n\nIn 2025\, the guest canton is Zug. At Lindenhof\, they will have exhibitions and shops\, entertainment and food\, Zug specialties such as Chriesiwurst (cherry sausage)\, Walchwiler mountain cheese\, cherry cake\, Baar beer\, and Etter cherry schnapps. There will also be an exhibition titled "Cherries\, Crypto & Clichés." \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSechseläuten Monday Parade and Böögg Burning\n\n\n\nOn Sechseläuten Monday\, the festivities begin early with cannon shots at 7 AM. Throughout the morning\, various traditional activities take place across the city\, including the throwing of bread rolls at Grossmünsterplatz\, mortar firing on the Gemüsebrücke\, and a wreath-laying ceremony at the Hans Waldmann monument. \n\n\n\nMost workers are released by 2 PM for the Sechseläuten parade of floats. The main parade begins at 3 PM\, featuring over 350 riders\, around 50 horse-drawn wagons\, and nearly 30 music corps marching along Bahnhofstrasse and Limmatquai to Sechseläutenplatz. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEach float is designed and built by a different guild\, and each guild tries to outdo the others with its creative and intricate designs. The floats are made of wood and paper mache and decorated with flowers\, lanterns\, and other colorful decorations. \n\n\n\nOne of the most exciting parts of the Sechseläuten parade is the burning of the Böögg. The Böögg is a large\, wooden snowman set on fire at the end of the parade. \n\n\n\nAt 6 PM sharp\, the bonfire topped by a snowman is torched\, and the count is on: How long will it take for the head to explode? According to local legend\, the faster the Böögg burns\, the better the summer will be. The burning of the Böögg is a symbol of the arrival of spring and the end of winter. \n\n\n\nWhile the snowman is ablaze\, mounted guild members ride around the burning pyre three times to the sounds of traditional marches. After the Böögg explodes\, the guilds retreat to their guild houses for dinner and celebration\, often continuing late into the night. \n\n\n\nCopyright Cloudia Chen\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMeanwhile\, you will find many locals who will meet up at the bonfire in front of the opera house for a down-to-earth tradition. The "common people" of Zürich will BBQ sausages in the gigantic fire and have a drink! \n\n\n\nZürich’s Sechseläuten festival through a professional lensWhat the Sechseläuten tradition in Zürich is all about\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHistory of the Sechseläuten Parade\n\n\n\nThe Sechseläuten parade has a long history that dates back to the 16th century. It is said that the parade was originally organized to mark the end of winter and the arrival of spring. The parade was also a way for the people of Zurich to show off their wealth and prosperity\, as each float was designed and built to reflect the wealth and status of the participating guilds.

The choreography pushes the boundaries of art\, reflecting an extraordinary chemistry between Roman and Zorn. \n\n\n\nCopyright Andrej Uspensky\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAct 2: Maurice Béjart’s L'Oiseau de Feu\n\n\n\nBéjart's L'Oiseau de Feu\, set to the music of Igor Stravinsky\, forms the second part of the program. The audience was duly struck at its premiere in 1970: Stravinsky shattered musical traditions as a revolutionary musician. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAct 3: Maurice Béjart’s Boléro\n\n\n\nThe first two acts will warm us up for the grand finale\, Maurice Béjart’s Boléro. Performed to Ravel's famous rhythm\, this masterpiece will shake you to the core. The intensely repeated theme gains in volume and momentum… \n\n\n\nIt’s going to be unforgettable! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Béjart Ballet Lausanne Company\n\n\n\nSince its establishment in 1987\, the Béjart Ballet Lausanne has continued to thrill audiences worldwide with its blend of classic and new ballets. Under the stewardship of Gil Roman\, who succeeded founder Maurice Béjart as director in 2007\, the company has preserved Béjart's legacy while introducing further artistic evolutions. \n\n\n\nThis is evident in their continuous commitment to outstanding choreography and ballet excellence. Today\, the company is a diverse ensemble of performers from at least a dozen nations\, a testament to its international appeal and influence. \n\n\n\nBuy tickets at ticketcorner.ch\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFAQ about Béjart Ballet in Zürich\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n When are the Béjart Ballet Lausanne's performances at Theater 11 in Zürich? The Béjart Ballet Lausanne will perform at Theater 11 Zürich from November 9 to 12. SUMMARY:Illuminarium Light Festival in Zürich 2029
DESCRIPTION:By now\, the Illuminarium Light Festival in Zürich is an institution. \n\n\n\nShorter days with longer nights equal more reasons to hang out at Christmas markets... As such\, we are very glad that the Illuminarium Light Festival once again sparks joy in the courtyard of the Swiss National Museum. \n\n\n\nConveniently located at the Zurich main station\, this is more than a Christmas market: it's rather a festival grounds of colorful illuminations\, food and beverage vendors\, music\, and light projections. There are fondue stalls\, attractions\, and an eclectic bar. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n2023 Highlights of the Illuminarium Light Festival\n\n\n\nFrom November 9 to December 30\, the (otherwise quiet) courtyard of the Landesmuseum is spreading the holiday spirit. Simply step through the large gate into this admission-free Christmas Wonderland. There\, you will find various vendors offering everything from mulled wine to cotton candy. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe especially like the indoor bar with its living room atmosphere. The stylists have obviously put a lot of thought into the decorations\, which made us feel "at home" while sipping on a generous 14-franc Hendrick's Gin & Tonic. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom prior years\, we know that Illuminarium Zurich can get very busy as the after-work crowds gather. So\, the earlier you can get there to reserve a standing table or lounge\, the better... Seats at the indoor Fondue Palace should be reserved in advance. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCyberCity offers an immersive digital experience on the World Wide Web. Using advanced projectors\, the Digital Art Show transforms the museum walls into a gigantic virtual canvas. Contemporary electronic music adds to the atmosphere of this digital universe\, which can be enjoyed for an admission of roughly 10 francs. \n\n\n\nIn another admission-only area located a bit off to the side of the courtyard\, there is a nightly projection of a Christmas story featuring Yuki. The main character is a sort of cyclope yeti who will surely steal your heart. \n\n\n\nThe larger-than-life story is projected onto three building surfaces of the Swiss National Museum. We found it very clever how the architectural features of the buildings were incorporated into the projections. \n\n\n\n(Narrated entirely in Swiss German\, Yuki's story is definitely targeted at younger crowds. As for us\, we felt a bit underwhelmed after the 15-minute show.) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGood to know:\n\n\n\n\nLocated at the courtyard of the Swiss National Museum in Zurich.\n\n\n\nTake the "Landesmuseum" exit at the Zurich Main Station or get off the tram at "Bahnhofquai/HB" and walk a few steps to the entrance.\n\n\n\nChildren aged 0 to 5 enjoy free admission.\n\n\n\nIt's open rain or shine\, so show up with warm\, weather-resistant clothing.\n\n\n\nThe festival is entirely cashless\, so bring your cards or digital wallets.\n\n\n\n\nCheck out our listing of Swiss Christmas markets.

SUMMARY:ZüriCarneval 2023 is more colorful than ever!
DESCRIPTION:The Fasnacht carnival tradition in Zürich may not be as substantial as in Basel or Luzern. But for one weekend\, the city’s own Mardi Gras is usually taking over the streets of Zürich. \n\n\n\nJazz concerts and steel band performances are highlights of the Zürich carnival tradition. The culmination of ZüriCarneval is a spectacular street show for everyone who loves confetti\, weird costumes\, and live music. \n\n\n\nThe kick-off to this year's edition will be on Münsterhof at 5 PM. The theme is "Zrugg und bunter den je\," which translates to "Back - and more colorful than ever before!" Check the ZüriCarneval website for more information on the program. \n\n\n\nIn remembrance of the beginning of the war in Ukraine\, the organizers will host a special event on Feb 24 at Grossmünster. From 5 to 8 PM\, Gugge bands will be staying away from this area out of respect. \n\n\n\nHere are some impressions from the 2012 edition of ZüriCarneval:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClick through for even more photographs of ZürichCarnival 2012 \n\n\n\nEveryday Life2024 Carnival Parades in Switzerland – Practical GuideEveryday LifeKnow these typical masks and costumes at Swiss carnivals

SUMMARY:The CATS Musical in Zurich - catch it if you can! (2022)
DESCRIPTION:Copyright musical.ch\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe crowd-pleasing felines return to Switzerland this spring. The CATS Musical in Zurich is performed in the original English language - meow! \n\n\n\nDuring one full moon night\, a junkyard in London is turned into a ballroom. Once a year\, the Jellicle cats gather for a ball where one by one\, they reveal their colorful personalities. Meet the brave Munkustrap and the forgiveness-seeking Grizabella. Among other cats\, they will take over the spotlight as they vie for the attention of the magical Mr. Mistoffelees... \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe CATS Musical in Zurich is one of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s masterpieces\n\n\n\nElectrifying dancing\, beautiful costumes\, and elaborate stage decorations are just some of the reasons for this musical's long-lasting popularity. (I still remember the time I saw the CATS Musical in my childhood.) \n\n\n\nThe CATS Musical was originally released in London's West End in May 1981. One of the chief reasons why it is still being performed globally to this day is the memorable soundtrack by Andrew Lloyd Webber (no pun intended!) \n\n\n\nBy the time Grizabella hits the stage to pour her life's emotions into "Memory"\, you will see why this musical has attracted a global audience of more than 73 million in over 30 countries. \n\n\n\nMore information and tickets

SUMMARY:“Monet’s Immersive Garden” Experience in Zurich
DESCRIPTION:Monet’s garden has served as the subject of countless paintings\, drawings\, and pastels. An immersive 360-degree experience brings one of the 20th century’s finest artists to life: Monet’s Immersive Garden. \n\n\n\n“In front of your eyes\, illusions become reality.” When an exhibit teases with a phrase like this\, my curiosity is sparked. Having visited previous exhibits at Lichthalle MAAG\, I can only imagine how colorful and vibrant this production will be. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMonet’s Immersive Garden features video and sound\n\n\n\nEnhanced with visual and acoustic techniques\, the exhibit takes us straight to the heart of Monet’s infamous garden with its waterlily pond. Monet’s Immersive Garden combines images from no less than 40 projectors. \n\n\n\nThis production combines video with acoustic sound effects and music to create a dazzling world of color. Pixels replace Monet’s brush strokes. Through the use of magnification\, animation\, and sound\, we get to view the artist’s work in entirely new ways. \n\n\n\nWhen you purchase your ticket\, ask for an English audio guide. The exhibit is narrated in German only. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSome quick facts about Claude Monet\n\n\n\nHe was born on November 14\, 1840\, in Paris\, but he grew up in the harbor city of Le Havre\, where he spent most of his childhood and youth. As a child\, he would sit down with a pencil and paper and doodle. He used to caricature politicians and his neighbors when he was a teen.Claude Monet was a talented artist\, but not everyone in his family was. His father had a grocery business and viewed him as his successor\, not as an artist. After the death of his mother in 1857\, only his aunt\, a self-taught artist\, provided advice and supported him in his ambition to pursue a career in art.Monet was an avid gardener. He studied reference books\, went to exhibitions\, and sought expert guidance. In 1883\, Monet was drawn to Giverny\, a village in northern France’s Normandy region. This is where he would cultivate the infamous orchard with exotic plants\, flowers\, and the water lily pond. The garden served as a retreat and a source of creative inspiration for Monet. For the next 30 years\, he would make the water lily pond the defining motif of his art.Monet used to pay a gardener just to dust his water lilies. Every morning\, the gardener would delicately wash and dust the lily pads from a small boat.Once clean\, Claude Monet would pick up a brush to paint the water's surface\, the swaying flowers\, and the sky and landscape that reflected in it.His water lily paintings that are known across the world were created between 1894 and 1896.Monet portrayed his beloved pond at various seasons of the day and year. He would observe the times of day\, seasons\, sun\, clouds\, rain\, and light for long periods of time\, capturing various atmospheres. There are around 2000 paintings by Monet\, as well as eleven sketchbooks\, 110 drawings\, and 108 pastels.

SUMMARY:Turicum Gin Workshop Train (Zürich)
DESCRIPTION:When you step aboard the Roter Pfeil Churchill train\, you might get the feeling that you are entering a James Bond film. \n\n\n\nThe oldest SBB train still in service in Switzerland was built in 1939 for the Swiss National Exhibition. While England's most famous spy may have never taken a ride on the fire engine red train\, its legendary politician Sir Winston Churchill used the train during his 1946 tour of Switzerland. Today\, the one-of-a-kind Red Arrow train is bookable for company events\, weddings\, and other occasions. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGetting back to Bond: what's 007's favorite drink? The martini\, shaken\, not stirred\, of course.  \n\n\n\nWhile the shaken-not-stirred preparation has become a classic amongst Martini lovers\, it is the wrong way of preparing a Martini since shaking it can "bruise" the spirits and increase the chance of ice breaking into the drink. The "shaken\, not stirred" expression comes from Sir Ian Flemming trying to show that Bond was uncouth by requesting it. \n\n\n\nEnough about James Bond. Now\, what's the main ingredient of a classic Martini? That's right. It's gin. \n\n\n\nThe juniper-nuanced distillate has been trending for several years\, and the Swiss have had gin-fever for nearly a decade. While new brands pop up like mushrooms\, few have managed to establish themselves as well as Zurich's own Turicum Gin. It's the only distillery within city limits and continually wins awards for the quality of its gin. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEnter the Gin Lab Train Experience\n\n\n\nHaving long had their Gin Lab in the city\, the dynamic team at Turicum has just launched the Gin Lab train with Swiss Railways. What could be a better train than the historic Roter Pfeil Churchill train to hold a gin workshop? \n\n\n\nOn February 12\, 2022\, you are invited to jump onboard and blend your own gin. \n\n\n\nDuring a two-hour roundtrip train journey from Zurich to the Rhine and to Baden\, you will discover the many flavors and scents that get blended into today's gins to make them stand out from the rest. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDo you like your gins more fruity with nuances of strawberry and passion fruit? Or are you into the spicier kinds with notes of oak and ginger? With over 20 different distillates\, you can create a gin that is as singular as you are. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBook your tickets now and learn more about the beautiful Roter Pfeil train and what separates a London Dry Gin from a typical gin - and everything in between. \n\n\n\nAt the end of the voyage\, you will take home a bottle of the gin you have just blended\, Gents Tonic\, and the bar accouterments needed to mix the perfect gin and tonic at home. \n\n\n\nEmbrace your inner James Bond (or Winston Churchill) and jump on the Turicum Gin Workshop train! In the words of Winston Churchill: "Gin and tonic has saved more Englishmen's lives\, and minds\, than all the doctors in the Empire." \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Turicum Gin Workshop at a glance:\n\n\n\nRoundtrip fare on the historic Roter Pfeil train\, including reserved seats and driver's cab visit.Departure from Zürich main station at 3:55 PM\, return at 6:06 PM.Gin creation workshop\, including tasting of different distillates.Complimentary aperitif\, including 2 long drinks\, 1 water\, 1 gin gift case.\n\n\n\nBook a ticket\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChristian LangeneggerBusiness Strategist || Connector || Entrepreneur || Marketer || Writer || Optimist || Runner || Photographer || Epicurean || TEDster

SUMMARY:Switzerland: Amazingly Ambivalent (Exhibit)
DESCRIPTION:Copyright Swiss National Museum\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMany Swiss share a sentiment that their country is a cut above the rest. They might tell you that nature is breathtakingly beautiful\, the streets are sparkling clean\, and the infrastructure is top-notch. \n\n\n\nThis inside-out view does not necessarily match how the world perceives Switzerland. Is it an idyllic paradise\, or a surveillance state where suspicious neighbors check up on each other? Is it a humanitarian country or rather an island ruled by banks and multinationals? \n\n\n\nThe Swiss National Museum in Zürich is dedicating a temporary exhibit to bring us face to face with these bewildering contrasts: Amazingly Ambivalent. By facing these divergent views\, we will get to reflect on our own relationship with Switzerland. And who knows\, we might even uncover what really makes the Swiss tick... \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nCopyright Swiss National Museum

SUMMARY:Footloose - The Musical is on the loose in Zürich
DESCRIPTION:Everybody cut loose! Straight from London's West End\, we get to see a new production of Footloose - The Musical. \n\n\n\nThe immensely successful dance film is even more popular as a musical. Audiences near and far can't have enough of the story about a dance-loving teenager. When Ren MacCormack moves from Chicago to a small town\, he suddenly faces a new reality: loud music and public dancing are banned for minors. By way of throwing a giant party\, the protagonist thinks he has found a loophole in the system... It's teenage rebellion to the max! \n\n\n\nWhen Footloose (the film) was released in 1984\, it became an instant blockbuster. For months\, the songs dominated the airwaves and charts. And they are still popular today: "Holding Out for a Hero\," "Almost Paradise\," "Let's Hear It for the Boy." And\, of course\, "Footloose!" \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFootloose - The Musical at MAAG Halle in Zürich\n\n\n\nThe dancers and musical crew of the current production are simply amazing. Each dancer actually plays an instrument\, too\, therefore becoming a part of the band. The hairdos and props add to the atmosphere\, which is a sort of time tunnel into the 1980s. \n\n\n\nCopyright Footloose Musical/Matt Martin\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFootloose - The Musical is entirely held in English\, making it a perfect opportunity to go back to a live event. Please note that all guests require a valid COVID certificate (2G).

SUMMARY:Viva Frida Kahlo! Exhibit in Zurich
DESCRIPTION:Immerse yourself in the colorful and surreal world of Mexican artist/feminist icon Frida Kahlo at the MAAG Lichthalle in Zürich. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRunning from Sept 22 through Feb 27\, 2022\, the exhibition combines video projections\, light\, and sound. You will feel like you’ve just wandered off Planet Earth and stepped into Kahlo’s fascinating mind\, surrounded by exotic plants\, quirky animals\, and dreamlike symbolism. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrida Kahlo explored her identity and pain through her art. A mixed-race woman who spent a lot of her young adult life confined to a hospital bed\, she later underwent a public\, tumultuous relationship with fellow artist Diego Rivera. \n\n\n\nRich with symbolism\, her work remains a fascination to young people today. Kahlo is widely regarded as an icon for her unique personality\, fashion sense\, and (at the time) radical views on womanhood. \n\n\n\nIf you need a little break from reality as the months get colder\, this immersive exhibition is the perfect escape for the entire family!

SUMMARY:The LES MISÉRABLES Musical is coming to Zürich in 2020
DESCRIPTION:Exciting times are coming up for Switzerland. For the first time in its history\, Swiss audiences will be enjoying the original English version of LES MISÉRABLES in 2020. \nThe brilliant new staging is inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo and his classic novel. Paired with its beloved melodies\, this musical has everything it takes to make our start into the new year a happy one. \nWhat you need to know about the LES MISÉRABLES Musical\nLES MISÉRABLES is the world’s longest running and most loved musical. It has garnered 100 prestigious international awards to its name. Inspired by Victor Hugo's novel\, this modern classic musical is as groundbreaking today as it was during its first premier in London in 1985. \nIt is an epic tale of redemption and passion. It is packed with an emotional wallop that continues to thrill worldwide audiences of all ages. Seen and enjoyed by over 120 million people in 52 countries and 22 languages\, LES MISÉRABLES is truly one of the world's best musicals. \nIn nineteenth century France\, Jean Valjean is an ex-convict who has been imprisoned for 19 years for stealing a bread loaf. Upon his release\, he receives mistrust and mistreatment everywhere he goes. This is until Bishop Myriel helps him to start a new life. However\, police inspector Javert hunts Valjean\, who has been living under the name Monsieur Madeleine... \nFinally\, a tragic climax. During the 1832 Paris student uprising\, Valjean spares his life to save that of the student revolutionary. The latter had captured the heart of the main character’s adopted daughter Cosette. Disgusted and horrified\, Javert commits suicide and Valjean attains the peace that he has sought for so long. \n \nAbout the original English version on tour\nWith countless hours of rehearsals between actors\, musicians and technicians\, each performance of the musical will transport you back to the France of the 19th century. The stunning Killian Donnelly is playing the lead role of Jean Valjean. Nic Greenshields will play Javert\, and gorgeous Katie Hall will be in the role of Fantine. \nYou will see Martin Ball\, Harry Apps\, Will Richardson\, Nicholas Corre\, Brian James Leys\, Ruben Van Keer\, Lee Ormsby\, and many others on stage. Other female ensembles will include Jamie Birkett\, Helen Aylott\, Mary-Jean Caldwell\, Bronwen Hanson and Megan Gardiner. The entire touring production is directed by James Powell and multi award-winner Laurence Connor. \nThe orchestra will perform operatic passages while reflecting feelings through their voices overflowing with sorrow\, joy\, and\, cries\, and giggles. The cast will perform in a way to keep every scene taut\, tense and perfectly timed. \nA musical that's all but miserable\nBasically\, what we are trying to say is that LES MISÉRABLES is sure to fill your soul with romance and throb. Cameron Mackintosh\, composer Claude-Michel Schönberg\, and musical script writer\, Alain Boublil\, have already successfully collaborated on several occasions. Among other productions\, LES MISÉRABLES and Miss Saigon went down in musical history. \nThe show is said to take approximately 2 hours 30 minutes\, including an interval. This is the original English version.. \nThe musical will take place from January 21 to February 23\, 2020. SUMMARY:Let's play! An exhibit about the history of video games
DESCRIPTION:(Key visual copyright Swiss National Museum/Roli Hofer) \nPacman\, Tetris and Super Mario Bros. are names that bring up memories. Yet just a couple of decades ago\, video games were looked at as a gimmick. \nThis spring\, the Swiss National Museum in Zürich is dedicating a temporary exhibit to the history of video games. \nAs one of the world's top leisure activities\, video games have surely established themselves in popular culture. (Globally\, some 2.5 billion people play video games!) The evolution from Commodore 64 to today's virtual reality experiences in cyberspace is remarkable. \nThis exhibit looks at the 50-years old history of electronic games\, giving visitors lots of opportunities to get hands on. When is the last time you played Pacman? Personally\, I cannot wait to see this exhibit and get my game on... Who knows? I might even start to spend my lunch hours there! \nTest your skills in this browser based game especially developed for the exhibit. \nOpening hours: Tue - Sun 10 AM to 5 PM\, Thu 10 AM to 7 PM\, closed on Mon \nMore information \n \n(All photographs copyright Swiss National Museum)

SUMMARY:photoSCHWEIZ is coming back to Zürich in 2020
DESCRIPTION:Once the holiday dust has settled and the new year has kicked off\, we are always glad to find inspiration at photoSCHWEIZ. \nYou may remember the previous editions of Switzerland's largest photography exhibit\, such as photo19. In 2020\, the organizers have rebranded the exhibit to simply photoSCHWEIZ. \nMore than 300 photographers will be displaying their best works\, whereby 200 photographs will be part of the regular exhibit. The remaining pieces will be spread among 18 special exhibitions covering everything from documentary to nature photography. \nOne such exhibit is entitled "Doomed Paradise"\, a long term documentation of the rain forests of Borneo. Photographer Tomas Wüthrich has traveled there multiple times in order to visit with local residents who are fighting deforestation. I am particularly interested in this show because the recent feature film\, Paradise War\, about Bruno Manser\, has brought the Penan people back into popular consciousness. \nphotoSCHWEIZ workshops\nThose who want to further their photography skills or are considering a career as a photographer should look into the 120 workshops. Topics range from travel photography to aerial photography (held in English). \nphotoSCHWEIZ is open daily from 11 AM to 8 PM and tickets are available online.\n \n(Photograph copyright Ruth Spiller/photoSCHWEIZ)

Your instructors will be awaiting you at the appetizer where introductions are made. Afterwards\, the hands-on part begins as you prepare your own Christmas dinner using quality ingredients. Whether you are a carnivore\, vegetarian or vegan - Sandra and her team will be able to accommodate you. (She speaks English\, by the way.) \nThe evening's three-course meal comes with a wine pairing featuring the restaurant's house wines: Blanc de Noir and Bagnolo di Riserva. SUMMARY:Pong! The Vintage Computer Festival is coming back to Zürich
DESCRIPTION:Vintage computer festivals are held across the world. And once again this November\, there's one coming back to Zürich! \nRelive the home computer years\, but also experience computers from from the 1950's to the 1970's. Remember the blinked rows of lights on massive front panels\, hidden in research labs\, universities and big companies? There is no admission for kids\, and they will be well catered for with a large Vintage Gaming section. \nExhibitors (both private collectors and museums) have made great efforts to engage families with children\, and not just computer enthusiasts\, with a varied\, fun but also educational experience. As it turns out\, a big computer from 1970 is not so hard to understand for people today. \nThe event is hosted in the Rote Fabrik at Seestrasse 395. \nFollow them on Twitter or check out the photo gallery from 2016.

SUMMARY:Circus Conelli is a Christmas tradition in Zürich
DESCRIPTION:Update from Nov 25\, 2019: We can no longer endorse this circus.\n\n\n\nAt tonight's VIP premiere\, the host urged us to spread the word if we like the show\, but not to share anything if we did not like it. The first half of the show was nothing to write home about. It was simply average. \n\n\n\nThen\, the mayor of Zurich\, Mrs. Corine Mauch\, introduced the second half. We wonder whether she knew about the racist clown number that would follow... Picture a cowboy patronizing a dumb Native American. The cowboy goes on to whip the Native American. \n\n\n\nThe so-called "VIP audience"\, including the former head of SVP\, Christoph Blocher\, was roaring about the dumb clowns and their embarrassing jokes in Swiss-English. We felt appalled by the insensitivity of this circus and we would urge Circus Conelli to remove this act. \n\n\n\nWe live in the 21st century and we feel deeply ashamed that an insensitive\, racist clown act can be performed right in the heart of Zürich.

SUMMARY:THE KING AND I Musical is coming to Zürich
DESCRIPTION:Straight from the golden age of musicals\, meet THE KING AND I! \nAfter a record breaking season at The London Palladium\, the musical is now embarking on a world tour. This will be the first time for the current production of THE KING AND I to stop in Switzerland. \nWhat you need to know about the musical THE KING AND I\nThe story takes place in Bangkok around 1860. Anna\, a British teacher\, arrives in Bangkok during these imperialistic times. She will be visiting the court of the King of Siam in order to teach his highness and the 67 children in modernist ways. But with her brave and strong-willed nature\, she turns the royal court upside down. Without giving anything away\, there will be tragedy and romance... \nThe musical is based on the novel Anna and the King of Siam. It first appeared on Broadway in 1951. One year later\, it was a hit at the box office\, winning a Tony Award for "Best Musical". \nBut its revival has been critically acclaimed as well. In 1996 and 2015\, THE KING AND I has won Tony Awards for "Best Revival". And finally\, you might remember the 1999 movie adaptation starring Jodie Foster. \nThis is the fifth musical by the Rodgers and Hammerstein team. The two have drummed up a large orchestra and 50 outstanding artists. I am very much looking forward to hearing the live performances of songs such as Shall We Dance\, Getting To Know You\, or Whistle A Happy Tune. \nAbout the original UK cast\nThe cast for this musical includes Kok-Hwa Liein in the role of Kralahome\, and Aaron Teoh as Prince Chulalongkorn. William M Lee will play Phra Alak\, and Edward Baker Duly will take on dual roles of Orton and Ramsay. \nAmong the male ensemble are Steven Hardcastle\, Prem Rai\, Joaquin Pedro Valdes\, Jesse Milligan\, Eu Jin Hwang\, and Irvine Ray Abesamis. The female ensemble includes Misa Koide\, Ela Lisondra\, Ena Yamaguchi\, Miiya Alexandra\, Yuki Abe\, and Aiko Kato. \nThis revival of THE KING AND I musical has designs by Michael Yeargan as well as light designs by Donald Holder. Scott Lehrerm provides the sound design\, and costumes were designed by Catherine Zuber. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to witness this spectacular musical. Unless you are planning to travel abroad\, it will never be more convenient to see it than this winter in Zürich... \nHere is what reviewers in London have said about THE KING AND I\nThe producer of the musical\, Howard Panter\, has declared that “the response from London audiences to this multi-award winning production was unexpected." In addition\, WhatsOnStage also gave the show a four-star review saying that "It’s very hard to not to fall for the King and I\, which features some of the loveliest songs in musical theatre sung by an absolutely crack cast. The songs included in the musical were Getting to Know You\, Whistle A Happy Tune\, and Shall We Dance?" \nThe musical takes approximately 3 hours including an interval. This is the original UK version in English. It is recommended for children aged 8 years or older. \nGet your tickets at Ticketcorner \nTheater 11\nThurgauerstrasse 7\n8050 Zürich \n \n(Key visual copyright musical.ch)
