I first came across Ribizli sweetertainment when doing research for our 2012 Gift Guide. The name sounded very catchy, so the amateur baker inside of me wanted to find out what this Zürich based start-up is all about...

Business partners Alexandra and Timi are originally from Hungary, but they have studied and worked in Austria, the UK and Switzerland for many years. Their common childhood memory of the traditional Hungarian Dobos cake and a profound love for baking and decorating have finally brought them together in Switzerland.

The result? Ribizli sweetertainment, a Zürich start-up blending the fun of baking and decorating with a social aspect. Timi states that at the beginning of their workshops, people's jaws usually drop when they see some of her exquisite cake creations. After practicing their decorating skills and getting practical advice on baking, most participants cannot wait try it at home.

Ribizli sweetertainment - Baking WorkshopsWhenever they can, they use seasonal and locally sourced ingredients for their workshops. So it will be within reach for anyone to give that next birthday cake a unique and personal design and look.

I would consider myself a fairly traditional baker, as my lemon cake is usually soaked with lemon juice and covered in powdered sugar frosting. Having met Alexandra and Timi, I now wonder what else might be possible in terms of decoration...

Ribizli sweetertainmentAll of their workshops are exclusively held in English in the Zürich region - whether at a client's home or in a show kitchen. It seems that the co-owners have a passion for presenting old recipes with a twist. For instance, they will take grandma's chocolate cake recipe, translate it into cupcakes and decorate them in a Star Wars theme!

Alexandra and Timi have sparked my appetite to experiment with decorating... So I am officially on a quest to create the perfect Newly Swissed cake!
