New Health Foods from Swiss Company with Heart

Rhythm 108 Swiss Snack BarsWhen it comes to finding healthy snacks on the go, the choices are slim beyond the good ol' fruit selection and muesli bar.

All muesli bars are not created equal, and if we take a look at the listed ingredients on the majority of "healthy" bars, you would be shocked to find processed sugar and flour, fruit flavorings, and a host of colorings and preservatives.

Not surprisingly, I was drawn to Rhythm108's "Eat Real. Be Real" booth at the recent Zürich Gourmesse fair. 108 is a significant number in yogic and Buddhist traditions. However, you do not need to be a yogi to appreciate a whole food dessert snack that has an ingredient list you can actually understand!

Finding the Rhythm

Being a career woman who often traveled, Siddhi Mehta was tired of feeling low in energy and uninspired by convenience foods that tasted like cardboard. She had grown up with her parents doing yoga, but having been raised in Dubai, she did not have connections to the sciences of wellbeing from her Indian heritage.

Her father encouraged Siddhi to do just 15 minutes of yoga while on the road with work, and she was surprised at how much better she felt. Inspired to improve her eating, she started to make her own snack bars and in time it evolved into the Geneva based Rhythm108.

Sustainable and Natural Food

Incorporating yoga principles, Siddhi has worked hard over the past few years to create a company that is ethical and has your health in mind. She considered the current global figures that 1 billion people are obese and 1 billion are starving. Siddhi felt that responsible purchasing can help both sides by bringing healthy food to market and sourcing from sustenance farmers.

While Rhythm108 sources as many local and organic ingredients as possible, Siddhi is also building relationships directly with organic farmers. Through her network, select ingredients that are not available locally can be sourced, such as coconut and amaranth from India and South America, respectively.

All-Natural Dessert Bars

Rhythm108 bars have no flavorings added, meaning the Apple Pie bar has 25% real apples vs. the 7-8% apples topped up with natural flavors which you commonly see.

The ingredients are listed on the front of the wrapper and easy to read: 2 dates, 3 almonds, 4 cashews, 1 tsp dried lemon, 1/2 glass of Swiss milk, 1/2 tsp amaranth and 3 drops of apple cider vinegar = Lemon Cake Bar.

The original five "good for you" dessert bars are:

  • Coconut Pie
  • Lemon Cake
  • Chocolate Brownie
  • Banana Muffin
  • Apple Pie

Rhythm 108 Swiss Snack BarsSiddhi tells me that she already has a number of delicious new bars in the pipeline, such as Carrot Cake and Peach Cobbler... My advice: Heat up the Apple Pie bar and enjoy with tea - it's delicious!

Why not raise your consciousness and support a small Swiss company with a lot of heart?
