Much of Switzerland is covered by a thick layer of fog

Nebelmeer at Hasenstrick - Sea of Fog aboove Switzerland

Are you still below or are you already above?

As the first decade of the millennium turns to a close, much of Switzerland is covered by a thick layer of fog. While the ski resorts are basking in the sun, seeing fifty shades of gray is a common thing for many who live in Switzerland's plains.

That's why they invented live webcams! As you wake up one one of those gloomy mornings, your instincts might tell you to go into hibernation mode. But take my advice and fight the urge to stay at home! Instead, Google your nearest hillside town or mountain top plus "webcam" to have a glimpse at a sunnier world. For instance, I Googled "Bachtel webcam" this morning to find out that less than twenty minutes from my home, the sun was out!

As I was leaving the thick sea of fog that is currently covering the Zürcher Oberland, I felt very relieved. Seeing the Alps in the distance inspired me to take some photographs and write this blog post.

Here are some impressions from Hasenstrick near Zürich on New Year's Eve 2019:
