SUMMARY:Monet at Fondation Beyeler (Riehen)
DESCRIPTION:I have first encountered Claude Monet’s works at the Musée de l’Orangerie in Paris. \nThe wealth and variety of Monet’s impressionist art has left a mark on me. Alas\, I was thrilled to learn that the Fondation Beyeler is devoting an exhibit to this important painter. Being one of the key artists in their permanent collection\, the museum will be shedding light on selected aspects of Monet’s work. \nThose who pilgrimage to Riehen near Basel before May 28 will enjoy over 60 works of art\, summoned from museums and private collections the world over.\nThe selection focuses on the years after 1880 to the onset of the 20th century\, a period when famous paintings such as Houses of Parliament and the water lilies series were born. \nOn select days\, Fondation Beyeler is opening its doors to those early risers who want to soak in Claude Monet in tranquility. There is a special curator’s tour with a meditation session inside the exhibit halls. \nFor the families among you\, mark your calendars for Sunday\, April 9. From 10 AM to 6 PM\, there will be museum tours tailored to children and teenagers in several languages. Also\, the museum has announced experiments with art and creative workshops\, all of which are included in the admission fee. \nI will leave you with a curious fact: “Monet was baptized as Oscar-Claude\, but his parents called him simply Oscar. Strange that we all call him Claude.” \nMore information \n(Sources: Facts about Claude Monet)

SUMMARY:Jean Dubuffet at Fondation Beyeler - Guided Tour in English (Basel)
DESCRIPTION:You may not have heard of Jean Dubuffet until now\, but he is one of the defining artists of the latter half of the 20th century. \nThe Fondation Beyeler is dedicating a large scale retrospective to this French painter and sculptor who had left his marks in works from Hockney to Haring. As part of this carefully curated exhibit\, you will get to see Dubuffet’s rich and multi-layered body of work. \nThe more than 100 pieces create a unique visual universe which should not be missed. Jean Dubuffet had a particularly fascinating idea of landscape: He thought it could transform itself into a body\, a face or an object. As you will see\, the artist experimented with a variety of techniques and materials\, from sand to butterfly wings. \nTake part of this guided tour in English and add even more value to your museum visit. The Jean Dubuffet exhibit will be on through May 8\, 2016. \n(Photograph/images copyright ProLitteris Zurich/Fondation Beyeler)
