Is there a more effective way to slide into autumn than through dance?
We think not, and this is why we are sharing this great news with you. From September 25 through 30, Theater 11 in Zürich will be hosting the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. These talents are actually part of the most popular dance company in the United States – with good reason, too! Established six decades ago by Alvin Ailey, the members of this dance theater light up the stage with a unique blend of talent and experience.
What is the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater all about?
This dance spectacle is so successful in that it is not only entertainment, but is also a celebration of African American culture through dance. Showcasing utter perfection, thirty dancers make a performance and gracefully come together as one. From everything we heard about the Alvin Aley American Dankce Theater, it is beautiful to see these talents flawlessly dance together to capture the very essence of their heritage. The dancers appear as tactful, graceful and perform with incredible skill.
Why are we so excited about it?
Robert Battle, the artistic director, has created choreography that combines Jazz, Blues, Hip-Hop, Gospel and Funk in not one but two separate programs. This theater has the ability to take the audience with them on the journey through history and the celebration of it. Be it from honoring Jazz legends like Ella Fitzgerald to celebrating classics.
There will be two programs shown in Zürich – what a difficult choice! On Tuesday and Thursday, you can enjoy Stack-Up by Talley Beatty, Mass by Robert Battle, the famous comical dance Ella or Revelations. On Wednesday and Friday, enjoy The Winter in Lisbon by Billy Willson, Members Don’t Get Weary by Jamar Roberts and Revelations by the one and only Alvin Ailey.
All we can say is: expect to be captivated!
