Has it been 45 years since the original performance of the Rocky Horror Show?
It makes one wonder how many adaptations in high schools and community theaters around the world have been performed in all those years… Many of the musical’s songs have earned a permanent place in pop culture: “The Time Warp”, “Sweet Transvestite” and many more.
In the early years after the musical in 1973 and the subsequent movie in 1975, the Rocky Horror Show faced quite some criticism. It was perceived as too unique for the musical format – breaking barriers and conventions. But little did they know that this musical would become a cult classic.
Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show is just as relevant as it was back in the day. This can be seen in its lasting influence on drag shows, rock bands and the burlesque genre.
The story revolves around Janet and Brad, a newly engaged couple. One night, their car breaks down and they stumble upon the castle of Dr. Frank’n’Furter. This mad scientist is on the verge of welcoming his latest creation: Rocky Horror…
The musical’s cast has mostly been recruited in London and all the performances are in English – with one exception: The iconic “Narrator” will be talking in German.
This fairytale for grown-ups is perfect for Halloween season. The Phantoms and the appearance of Dr. Frank’n’Furter might give you the chills. But the live Rock’n’Roll music and punchy humor is sure to pump you up… After this performance, you will surely leave the theater fully energized!
Zürich, let’s do “The Time Warp” again! But you better be quick if you want to fetch a ticket!
