Free Toilets in Geneva & Toilet Codes (2026 Guide)

There is something about Geneva that just feels different. The mix of diplomats, locals, and tourists. The lakefront, and the giant water fountain doing its thing in the background.

All that water shooting into the air is a gentle reminder: At some point, you will need a toilet. But when you are strolling the Rive Gauche or hunt for a spot near the lake, the public toilet situation requires a plan.

Bienvenue to my personal, regularly updated guide to every free public toilet in Geneva. I wrote this guide to list every free public WC, plus the current fast food restaurant toilet codes. I used the official city dataset as well as insider tips for finding a toilet in Geneva.

Below you will find codes for the most popular fast food chains in Geneva, sorted alphabetically. Codes change frequently, so use these as a starting point and politely ask staff if a code does not work. More than likely, these restaurants now print codes on receipts only.

Paying for Toilets in Geneva

Geneva's train station at Cornavin has paid toilet facilities managed by McClean. Entry costs CHF 1.50 and can be paid by card. Holders of a valid SBB train ticket or Swiss Travel Pass can scan their pass at the entry gate for free access.

If you prefer cashless, purchase a toilet entry card from a Selecta machine near the restrooms. The card is preloaded with credit and valid for five years.

Hop on a train at Cornavin

Every SBB train has onboard restrooms. Geneva-Cornavin has long platform lay-overs, so hop on, use the toilet, and step off before departure...

The University of Geneva is open to all

The main building at Rue du Général-Dufour 24 has free toilets in the public corridors. Walk in like you belong there, and no one will stop you.

The Museum of Art and History lobby is free

You don't need to buy a museum ticket to enter the lobby and use the toilet during museum hours. St. Pierre Cathedral (Cour Saint-Pierre) in the Old Town is another quiet option.

Cimetière de Plainpalais is Geneva's best-kept secret

Geneva's oldest cemetery at Rue des Rois 18 is a historic site and a genuinely peaceful spot. It also has a free public toilet open during daylight hours. Walk in through the main gate and follow the signs toward the chapel.

Manor and Globus beat hunting for a code

Both department stores on Rue de Rive have well-maintained free toilets. Manor is on the 4th floor, Globus is in the basement. No purchase required.
