We found Winter Wonderland in Anzère (Valais)

Anzere - Ultimate Alpine Experience

On the sunny northern side of the Valais, a few miles west of Crans-Montana's fancy shops, lies the smaller resort town of Anzère. Thanks to road access from Sion through kilometers of vineyards, Anzère feels like a safe haven and a connected resort at the same time.

Sunny slopes in Anzère

During winter, Anzère offers slopes for everyone - from beginners to advanced skiers, from couples to families. It is one of my favorite places to do skiing in Switzerland, so I thought I would let the Newly Swissed among you in on my secret... As you will notice, the resort is clearly family friendly and is all about enjoying a relaxing weekend, an entire week (or even life) up in the mountains.

Virtually walk across the beginner's slope at Pas de Maimbré. Or have a stroll through town with the new Streetview function.

Anzere - Ultimate Alpine Experience

Do not get me wrong, the view from the Anzère slopes is fantastic. With its southern exposure, Anzère is always sunny and faces the mighty mountains of the southern Valais, behind which lies Italy. If you fancy even more breathtaking vistas or feel a big peckish, I have a solution for you: Why not take the cable car up to Pas de Maimbré, an altitude restaurant with a great terrace and a menu that will keep you well fed? During summer, this restaurant is a great way to start or end a long hike in the mountains.

Quality time in town

Founded in 2011, Anzère's new attraction is its shiny spa and wellness center. The ground floor seems to offer everything that families would desire: A large pool, some bubbly corners, and an outside section for a pleasant cold head or warm body feeling.

The upstairs section of the spa is dedicated to wellness, with a steam room, a sauna, and an outdoor jacuzzi. The Spa & Welness is a big hit in the town, but with extended opening hours there is always a time of the day where you will be able to have a calm, relaxing time.

Compared to spas in the city, the admission fees seem extremely reasonable.

Anzere - Ultimate Alpine Experience

Listen to someone who has been to Anzère before: This Valais town has everything you need to enjoy some quality time with your family or significant other. It is not as glitzy as Verbier or Crans-Montana, but Anzère does have plenty of bars and clubs for the après-skiers. Our personal favourite? A casual drink and delicious burger at Black Horn Café, literally next to the cable car.

You can access Anzère by car in about 20 minutes or via postal bus in about 45 minutes from Sion. We recommend you make a weekend out of it and stay at the Eden Hotel, which is ideally located right in the centre, has all types of accommodation and catering, and guarantees a fantastic view over the valley for every single room.

Fancy coming in the summer instead? There is plenty to do all year round!
