GINMAKU Japanese Film Festival (Zürich)
May 23, 2018 - May 27, 2018
GINMAKU stands for “silver screen” in the old Japanese language. The film festival that claimed this name is coming back to Zürich once again.
The GINMAKU Japanese Film Festival in Zürich
For the fourth time, the GINMAKU Japanese Film Festival is bringing a line-up of Japanese films to Zürich. We were part of the initial festival several years ago, and we have been counting the days for organizer Mizuki Mazbara to bring it back.
This year, the screenings will take place in two hipster theaters in Zürich: The HOUDINI movie theater at Kalkbreite, as well as the Riffraff at Langstrasse.
The particular appeal of this film festival is the unique line-up of the latest Japanese films. Mizuki Mazbara is well connected and gets to screen lots of potential movies as she visits other film festivals. At GINMAKU in Zürich, we are privy to viewing the best of the best.
The presence of special guests such as directors or filmmakers make this film festival an immersive experience. Because usually, there is a Q&A session taking place right after the screening, allowing viewers to get behind-the-scenes insights. As you can tell, GINMAKU is one of my favorite festivals, hands down!
Personally, I am looking forward to “Traces of Breath”, a documentary gem shot by a 23-year-old:
We hope that you feel as excited as we are about the GINMAKU Japanese Film Festival!
