During Art Basel, a number of great side events will be taking place.
It goes without saying that the main attraction is the exhibit at Messe Basel. But in case you are more interested in specific topics like photography or emerging art, it is worth a trip to Basel despite the crowds of art lovers from all over the world. The cherry on top? Most of these events are free!
Art Basel (the main event)
Art Basel stages the world’s premier modern and contemporary art fairs, staged annually in Basel, Miami Beach, and Hong Kong. A driving force in supporting the role that galleries play in nurturing the careers of their artists, Art Basel frequently expands its platforms to include the newest developments in the visual arts.
When: June 15 – 18, 11 AM – 7 PM

Design Miami is the global forum for design. Each fair brings together the most influential collectors, gallery owners, designers, curators and critics from around the world in celebration of design culture and commerce.
When: June 12 – 18

Admission: CHF 30 (CHF 20 online)
Special evening program with live performances at a variety of unique locations on and around Münsterplatz. Museums and venues presenting Parcours projects have extended hours
and free public access. Food and drinks available from various food trucks at Münsterplatz.
When: Open to the public from June 12. (On Sat, June 17, from 6 PM to midnight, there will be various performances.)

Volta 13 showcases the highest caliber of new art – from rediscovered historic works to recent commissions alike.

Liste Art Fair
The Liste Art Fair focuses on introducing young galleries with primarily emerging, little known artists.
When: June 13 to 17 from 1 – 9 PM, June 18 from 11 PM to 6 PM

Admission: General CHF 20, discounted CHF 10 (Students/seniors/AHV), free for kids up to 16 years if accompanied by an adult.
SCOPE Basel will be welcoming 70 international exhibitors from 52 cities in no less than 27 countries. What an international event!

Swiss Art Awards
The Schweizer Kunstwettbewerb (Swiss Art Competition)has been organized annually since 1899 by the Swiss Federal Office for Culture. The exhibition offers insight into current art and architecture making in Switzerland and is a valuable index for art professionals and lovers.

I Never Read, Art Book Fair
The aptly named I Never Read, is a book fair that focuses on printed matter, gathering national and international, institutional and independent publishers.
When: June 14 to 17

photo basel international art fair
photo basel is Switzerland’s first and only international art fair dedicated to photography based art.
When: June 14 – 18

Rhy Art Fair
The young, international Rhy Art Fair presents works of newcomers and established artists: Paintings, sculptures, art photography and digital art.
When: June 15 to 18
