The Swiss Turnip Festival is all about – well – turnips!

Before the turnips rolled past in their lanterned glory, dodging Richterswil houses across the cobblestones, the Baggenstoss Bäckerei bakery was in top gear. Full disclosure: I only got to eat free Berliners and perform the coveted duties associated with the position of Räbechilbi Head Mulled Wine Taster because I am marrying into the Baggenstoss family.

Regardless, if your reaction was "Räbe what?", check out what the Swiss Turnip Festival in Richterswil is all about!

Swiss Style Halloween

The Richterswil Räbechilbi is essentially fall block party mixed with some arts and a candle-lit parade. People come from all around to check it out. But the locals (Richtersvillains?) use this day as a chance to high-five and celebrate - having neither open container laws nor a shortage of Mulled Wine!

For those Newly Swissed out there on a budget, this outdoor event is free, but Richterswil will collect a suggested donation of 8 francs to support buying all those turnips. But then again, in return, you will get a free turnip fan club badge!

But most importantly, check out those turnips!
